Line Cook
Reports To: Kitchen Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Position Summary
The Line Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality menu items while maintaining consistency, cleanliness, speed of service, and food safety standards. This position plays a vital role in delivering an exceptional guest experience by executing recipes accurately and efficiently while working collaboratively with the entire kitchen team.
Line Cooks at The Patio are expected to be versatile and adaptable. Team members should expect to work multiple stations during any given shift as business needs dictate. Responsibilities may include preparing burgers, pizzas, waffle fries, deli sandwiches, and assisting with other kitchen operations as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Food Preparation
- Prepare all menu items according to approved recipes, portion standards, and presentation guidelines.
- Prepare burgers, pizzas, waffle fries, deli sandwiches, and other menu items as assigned.
- Maintain consistency in product quality throughout every shift.
- Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with established cooking procedures and quality standards.
- Properly portion ingredients to minimize waste and maintain food cost objectives.
Station Responsibilities
- Work multiple kitchen stations as directed by the Kitchen Manager.
- Assist other stations during peak business periods.
- Maintain organized, stocked, and clean workstations throughout the shift.
- Communicate product shortages or equipment issues immediately to management.
Food Safety & Sanitation
- Follow all local, county, state, and federal food safety regulations.
- Maintain compliance with HACCP principles and established food handling procedures.
- Practice proper handwashing, glove usage, and cross-contamination prevention.
- Properly label, date, rotate, and store food products using FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory practices.
- Maintain clean and sanitized work areas, utensils, cutting boards, and equipment throughout the shift.
- Assist with opening, closing, and routine kitchen cleaning duties.
Teamwork
- Work cooperatively with fellow kitchen employees to ensure efficient service.
- Communicate effectively with the Kitchen Manager and Expeditor regarding ticket flow and production.
- Maintain a positive, professional attitude during busy service periods.
- Support fellow team members whenever business demands require additional assistance.
Operational Standards
- Follow all recipes exactly as written.
- Maintain appropriate cooking temperatures and product quality.
- Complete assigned prep work before service.
- Notify management of product shortages or quality concerns.
- Properly use and care for restaurant equipment and smallwares.
Qualifications
- Previous restaurant or kitchen experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- Willingness to learn multiple stations within the kitchen.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak business periods.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and twist throughout the workday.
- Ability to work safely around hot cooking equipment, sharp knives, and commercial kitchen machinery.
- Ability to work in hot, fast-paced kitchen environments.
Work Environment
This position works in a commercial kitchen where exposure to heat, steam, noise, and slippery surfaces is common. Employees are expected to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while consistently following all company safety procedures.
