Senior Accountant – Job Description

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations and supporting accurate financial reporting. This role performs monthly/quarterly close activities, reconciles accounts, reviews and supports journal entries, ensures compliance with company policies and applicable regulations, and partners with internal teams to improve processes and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

- Own or support the end-to-end **month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close** process.

- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and ensure accounts are complete, accurate, and timely.

- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and supporting documentation.

- Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS** (as applicable) and internal controls.

- Review transactions for proper coding, approvals, and adherence to accounting policies.

- Support audits by providing schedules, documentation, and explanations as needed.

- Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and support reporting to management.

- Improve accounting processes, streamline workflows, and strengthen internal controls.

- Maintain and update accounting documentation, procedures, and systems.

- Coordinate with AP/AR, payroll, treasury, and other departments to resolve discrepancies.

- Support tax-related activities (as assigned), including gathering data and preparing schedules.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (industry, public accounting, or combination).

- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and close procedures.

- Experience with financial reporting and variance analysis.

- Proficiency with accounting software SAGE50 preferred.

- Proficiency with Microsoft systems including excel, outlook, word, Power Point, Teams, etc.

- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas; experience with Power BI a plus).

- Demonstrated attention to detail, strong organization, and ability to meet deadlines.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- CPA (or working toward) or equivalent professional designation.

- Experience with audit readiness, internal controls (SOX or similar), or compliance frameworks.

- Background in cost accounting, revenue recognition, or multi-entity consolidation (if applicable).
