THE POSITION

Human Resource Assistant 1 for the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) at the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to grow in the human resources (HR) field. This position allows you to support staff and applicants while handling important HR tasks each day. It offers meaningful work that keeps the office running efficiently and supports those who serve our veterans and their spouses. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on supporting the HR office by assisting employees, maintaining records, and helping with hiring and onboarding tasks. It plays an important role in keeping daily operations organized and ensuring accurate HR processes. As a Human Resource Assistant 1, you will perform the following duties:

Visitor Assistance: Greet visitors, provide information, and help applicants with required forms
Employee Onboarding: Assist with new employee processing, scheduling, and answering routine questions during orientation
Hiring Coordination: Arrange interviews, physicals, and other pre-employment requirements
Injury Reporting: Input work-related injury claims and support workers compensation recordkeeping
Record Maintenance: Manage personnel folders, upload documents, and maintain filing systems
Report Preparation: Generate reports and review employee information for accuracy

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year of clerical or other comparable experience which involved obtaining, providing, and evaluating information in accordance with established standards; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
