Company Description
Evinex is a staffing firm focused on connecting the right people with the right businesses. This is a Direct Hire position for one of our prestigious clients in the technology solutions industry. Located in Monterey, California, our client specializes in commercial and residential smart dwelling automation, security camera systems, AV installations, and commercial networking.
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled, hands-on Field Installation Technician to install AV, networking, security camera, and satellite internet systems in residential and commercial environments. This is a craftsmanship role: pulling and terminating low-voltage cable, mounting cameras and access points, building clean equipment racks, and leaving every job site labeled, documented, and better than you found it.
The right candidate takes visible pride in their installs, works safely and efficiently in real-world conditions (attics, crawlspaces, ladders, occupied homes and businesses), and has the professional maturity to work independently and interact courteously with clients on site.
The strongest candidates combine professional low-voltage or technology installation experience with broader hands-on experience in construction, maintenance, or the skilled trades. We will also consider highly experienced tradespeople with strong mechanical aptitude, excellent craftsmanship, and the ability to learn low-voltage, AV, security, and networking installation practices.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform structured cabling work: pulling, terminating, testing, and labeling low-voltage wiring (Cat5e/Cat6, speaker wire, coax), including attic and crawlspace runs.
- Mount and install network hardware: wireless access points, switches, gateways, and PoE devices — UniFi ecosystem experience is a strong plus.
- Install IP security cameras, video doorbells, and related mounting hardware, including exterior installations.
- Build and dress equipment racks and enclosures, including power management, surge protection, and UPS installation.
- Install audio/video systems: amplifiers, zone audio, in-ceiling/outdoor speakers, displays, wireless microphone systems, and streaming sources.
- Install Starlink satellite internet systems, including roof/mast mounting and cable routing.
- Follow project scopes and installation standards; flag issues or scope changes to the project lead promptly.
- Document completed work: photos, labeling, site notes, and as-built details.
- Keep job sites clean and treat client property with care.
- Maintain a friendly, professional demeanor with clients at all times.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Required
- Low-Voltage / Structured Cabling: Experience pulling, routing, terminating, testing, or working around low-voltage cabling is preferred. Candidates coming from construction or another skilled trade must demonstrate the mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and willingness to learn these practices to a clean, professional standard.
- AV Installation: Skilled installing and wiring audio/video systems in finished and new-construction environments.
- Networking Fundamentals: Working knowledge of basic network hardware, PoE, and device connectivity sufficient to verify installs and assist with commissioning.
- Tools & Techniques: Proficient with hand and power tools and safe ladder work. Experience with cable testers, fish tape, fish rods, and routing cable through finished walls is preferred; candidates from the skilled trades must be able to learn these tools and techniques quickly.
- Problem-Solving: Practical on-site judgment — able to adapt install plans to real-world site conditions.
- Documentation: Able to read plans, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams, and document completed work clearly.
- Professional Maturity: Reliable, self-managing, and respectful of clients’ homes and businesses.
- Adaptability: Eager to learn new products and adopt company installation standards.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift 50+ lbs, work on ladders and rooftops, and access attics and crawlspaces.
Education / Professional Experience
- 3+ years of professional, hands-on experience in low-voltage, AV, security, smart-home integration, construction, maintenance, or a related skilled trade required (5+ preferred).
- Candidates may qualify through either strong professional technology-installation experience or substantial skilled-trades experience combined with mechanical aptitude, craftsmanship, tool proficiency, and the ability to learn low-voltage and AV systems.
- The strongest candidates will bring experience in both technology installation and construction or the skilled trades.
- Demonstrated examples or a portfolio of clean, professional installation, construction, or finished trade work is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus but not required.
Licenses / Certifications
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Low-voltage certification or relevant trade training is a plus.
- Ubiquiti/UniFi familiarity is a plus.
