Preschool Teacher

Three Points Campus | Medina, WA | 2026 – 2027 Academic Year

Come join our team at one of the largest independent schools in the Puget Sound area. Founded in 1950, Bellevue Christian School (BCS) has a rich history of educating students from Preschool through High School, on three campuses (Medina, Woodinville, and Clyde Hill). Combining the integration of faith and learning with researched-based teaching methods, BCS prepares young people to live faithfully for Christ in a rapidly changing world. The comprehensive curricular programming includes performing and visual arts, athletics, advanced placement, innovative technology, enrichment, concurrent credit and service-learning.

Salary: Between $24.55 - $28.09 per hour, depending on experience

Start Date: Around August 15th, 2022

Schedule: During the school year only, daily from approx. 8am-3:30pm

Qualifications (required):

Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have a completed Short Certificate (20 ECE credits) or equivalent. If not, working toward completing the education requirements or equivalent.
CPR and First Aid certified.
Comple the applicable preservice requirements, pursuant to WAC 110-300-0105.
Document professional development and health training annually using the MERIT system.

The preschool teacher is responsible for

Teaching children about God and the Bible, sharing the love of Jesus with students and parents through your words and actions, praying for your children, and teaching students to exhibit character traits that glorify the Lord.
Helping to teach and implement our chapel curriculum, SongStory, in the classroom.

Setting up the environment:

Create an inviting environment in your classroom where children are encouraged to learn and explore through a variety of activities, emphasizing the process, not the product.
Set up and take down invitations to play/table activities for your classroom daily. Rotate larger centers like dramatic play, library, sensory bin, science, etc. at least monthly.
Coordinate room arrangements with assistant including set-up in August and clean-up in June.
Maintain a classroom environment that complies with the Foundational Quality Standards found in Chapter 110-300 of the WAC.

Curriculum planning and development:

Know what is developmentally appropriate for the age child you teach through attending appropriate forms of professional enrichment and using the Essential Learning Goals & Objectives document.
Create weekly lesson plans and monthly units integrating Zoophonics, Handwriting Without Tears, Songstory, our Preschool FOSS kit, and other self-created units and lessons.
Provide learning experiences/invitations to learn that are developmentally appropriate, hands-on, varied, and play-based (not worksheets) to help children learn about the world God has created.
Plan for experiences that help children grow in all areas of development--social-emotional, large and small muscle, faith formation, communication, language, literacy, and cognition.
Teach children how to use supplies appropriately and to be responsible for cleaning up and taking care of materials.
Provide opportunities to build relationships between children and a sense of community within the class.
Encourage individual creativity and appreciation for the uniqueness of each child in your class that God has entrusted to you.
Maintain curriculum standards and guidelines as listed in the Interactions and Curriculum Section of the WAC.

Supervision, Health, and Safety:

Maintain WAC safety requirements and monitor classroom for safety. Notify Director/Assistant Director of any items that need repair or replacement.
Maintain a 1:10 ratio or better at all times.
Be familiar with the campus Emergency Procedure Plan and Health Policy.
Provide opportunities for children to practice safety procedures (fire, earthquake, evacuation, and lock- down).
In the event of an injury, complete Student Injury form and communicate details with parents and director.
Instruct and encourage children to put on coat, wash hands, clean up after snack, and develop independent self-help skills.
Ensure that children are accompanied to the bathroom.

Communication:

Write an introductory letter to families.
Provide monthly communication to parents in a Veracross Post to include curriculum themes, Bible verse/stories, learning goals, description of the connections between daily activities and learning goals, upcoming events.
Send monthly calendar to families.
Observe and document the growth and development of students throughout the school year.
Complete Developmental Assessments for each child (November and March).
Provide opportunities for families to provide input and ask questions.
Return phone calls and email within 48 hours whenever possible.

Collaboration:

Attend collaboration and planning meetings, prepare lesson plans and monthly calendars, and provide a copy of all class calendars and newsletters to the Director.
Provide positive encouragement to other staff members. Pray together daily.
Research new curriculum for positive learning experiences and share them with other teachers.

Professional Conduct

Complete paperwork and reimbursements in a timely manner.
Arrive on campus at least 20 minutes before class begins.
Dress appropriately and professionally – Sandals and flip flops should not be worn to school. Jeans must be neat. Exercise/yoga clothing should not be worn to work.
Refrain from using cell phones while children are present.
Maintain confidentiality when discussing information about children or families.
Do not participate in gossip.
Be cautious about use of social media.

Qualifications:

Prior experience working with Preschool aged children.
