Job Summary:

We are seeking an Engineer who will leverage their knowledge of mathematics, physics and engineering principles as well their experience in structural engineering, heavy lift and/or transportation to analyze projects and design plans that ensure the safety, stability and integrity of our work. Our team is made up of self-starters who own a project from inception through completion with strong problem solving and organizational background.

Your daily work responsibilities will include:

Analysis

Examine project goals and perform calculations, considering loads and stresses and making appropriate calculations.
Evaluate the conditions surrounding projects and determine the most appropriate course of action while supporting the project requirements and the service level commitments of Vic’s Crane & Heavy Haul.
Apply technical knowledge to meet expectations (including code, regulations and quality standards).
Analyze configurations of basic components for appropriate builds.
Calculate the pressures, stresses and strains that each component will encounter.
Considering the strength of various materials to see how inclusion may necessitate a change of structural design.

Design

Develop drawing for heavy lift and transport projects.
Design elements for each project using software.
Make recommendations and plans that include materials and safety measures.
Ensure the plans meet all code requirements and are delivered within communicated timelines.

Collaboration

Review designs and report at various stages during project design to ensure technical and functional adequacy.
Apply feedback in a timely manner.
Liaising with other designers to agree on safe designs that meet project requirements.
Use computer aided design technology for simulation purposes.
Visit job sites, interact with field employees and communicate with all levels within an organization.
Exceptional Communication skills (written and verbal)

To be successful in this role we’re looking for individuals who possess:

Strong proficiency with design software (ex Microstation, Autocad, MathCad, FEA, Rivet, Microsoft Platforms, RISA)
Excellent mathematical, project management and technical skills
In depth understanding of construction procedures, materials and project management principles
Current knowledge of industry trends, technology codes and regulations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or mechanical engineering
Proven experience (minimum 10 years) in structural, heavy lift and/or transport.
A minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience as an engineer.
