Full Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Accountant to oversee the financial operations of multiple small businesses owned by a single entrepreneur. The portfolio includes self-storage facilities, construction project accounting, and crop farming operations, requiring someone who can effectively manage the unique accounting, reporting, and compliance requirements of each business while providing accurate financial information to support strategic decision making. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment where priorities may shift and no two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

Maintain accurate books for multiple companies using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop)
Record and reconcile daily financial transactions.
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and loan accounts.
Monitor cash flow and provide recommendations to optimize working capital.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for each business.
Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records.

Self-Storage Accounting

Reconcile tenant payments and occupancy reports.
Reconcile merchant processing and online payment systems.
Monitor operating expenses, maintenance costs, and capital improvements.

Farming & Agricultural Accounting

Track crop production expenses including seed, fertilizer, chemicals, fuel, labor, equipment, and irrigation.
Monitor inventory of harvested crops and production inputs.
Prepare enterprise reports by crop to evaluate profitability.
Assist with USDA program reporting and agricultural recordkeeping as needed.
Track equipment purchases, depreciation, and capital improvements.
Support annual production and operating budgets.

Construction Project Accounting

Comparing estimates to invoiced amounts
Keeping expenses organized and put towards draws on loans.
Keeping an organized budget.

Payroll & Tax Compliance

Process payroll accurately and on schedule.
Prepare and file sales tax, payroll tax, and other required tax reports.
Coordinate with external CPAs for year-end tax preparation.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

Develop annual budgets for each business.
Prepare monthly financial dashboards and management reports
Analyze financial performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
Prepare cash flow projections and financial forecasts.
Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business growth and investment decisions.

Business Operations Support

Maintain organized financial records and supporting documetation.
Assist with business licensing, insurance renewals, financing applications, and audits.
Coordinate with banks, vendors, insurance providers, attorneys, and tax professionals.
Support acquisitions, new business startups, and implementation of accounting systems.
Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and financial accuracy.

Preferred Experience

Multi-entity accounting
Self-storage operations or property management accounting
Agricultural or farm accounting

Budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
