Position Overview

The Skilled Remodeler is an experienced construction professional capable of independently completing a wide range of residential remodeling and finish-work tasks. This position requires strong craftsmanship, sound judgment, problem-solving ability, and the confidence to take ownership of assigned portions of a project from preparation through completion.
This role is for someone who understands residential construction, takes pride in doing things correctly, communicates early, works well with customers and teammates, and is willing to help develop those working alongside them.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform residential remodeling and construction work independently and according to KJH quality standards.
- Complete work including framing, flooring, trim and finish carpentry, cabinetry, doors, windows, drywall repairs, demolition, installations, and general remodeling.
- Accurately measure, layout, cut, assemble, install, and finish materials.
- Read and work from plans, measurements, manufacturer specifications, and project information.
- Identify jobsite challenges and develop practical solutions while communicating significant changes or concerns before proceeding.
- Safely and properly operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolding, and construction equipment.
- Protect customers' homes and property and maintain clean, organized, professional jobsites.
- Monitor material needs and communicate shortages, changes, damage, or additional work early.
- Work effectively with coworkers, subcontractors, suppliers, and customers.
- Assist less-experienced team members by demonstrating proper techniques, answering questions, and reinforcing KJH standards.
Qualifications & Physical Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in residential remodeling, carpentry, or related construction work.
- Strong working knowledge of common residential construction methods, materials, tools, and installation practices.
- Ability to independently complete multiple types of remodeling and finish-work tasks.
- Ability to accurately measure, layout, cut, fit, and install materials.
- Strong problem-solving ability and understanding of how individual tasks affect the overall project.
- Ability to recognize when conditions differ from the planned scope and communicate before proceeding.
- Professional communication skills and ability to work respectfully in customers' homes.
- Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to manage assigned responsibilities.
- Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
- Ability to lift and carry up to approximately 70 lbs., with assistance when appropriate.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and regularly bend, kneel, squat, twist, reach, climb, and work in various construction positions.
- Ability to safely work from ladders, scaffolding, and approved work platforms.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying jobsite and weather conditions.

- Plans work carefully to minimize waste, damage, callbacks, and unnecessary rework.
- Recognizes when existing conditions may affect the quality or safety of the finished product and communicates before moving forward.
Productivity & Problem Solving
- Organizes work, tools, and materials to maintain productive jobsite flow.
- Completes assigned work within reasonable project expectations without sacrificing quality.
- Solves routine construction challenges independently and knows when leadership needs to be involved.
- Anticipates upcoming steps and identifies materials, information, or decisions needed to keep the project moving.
Communication & Customer Care
- Communicates questions, mistakes, changes, delays, and material needs early.
- Interacts professionally and respectfully with customers and protects their property throughout the project.
- Provides clear updates to leadership and avoids making commitments to customers outside assigned authority.
- Represents KJH professionally through appearance, conduct, workmanship, and communication.
Team & Growth
- Works cooperatively with others and contributes to a productive jobsite environment.
- Shares knowledge and helps less-experienced employees develop their skills.
- Receives feedback professionally and continues improving personal workmanship and construction knowledge.

The Skilled Remodeler is an experienced tradesperson position with opportunity for additional responsibility as KJH grows.
Employees who consistently demonstrate strong craftsmanship, independent problem-solving, communication, customer care, organization, and the ability to positively lead others may have opportunities to advance into positions such as Lead Remodeler, Lead Carpenter, or Project Lead.

Pay Range: $28–$36/hour, based on demonstrated remodeling experience, craftsmanship, independence, reliability, and level of responsibility.
Pay: $28.00 - $36.00 per hour
