Full Job Description

The Residential House Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a residential home and ensuring that individuals receive safe, respectful, person-centered, and high-quality support. The House Manager supervises direct support staff, coordinates daily activities and schedules, maintains the household, ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and communicates effectively with individuals served, families, staff, and management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the residential home.
Ensure the health, safety, dignity, and well-being of all individuals residing in the home.
Provide and coordinate person-centered support based on each individual's needs, preferences, and service plan.
Supervise, train, coach, and support Direct Support Professionals (DSPs).
Create and maintain staff schedules and ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, performance, and adherence to company policies.
Conduct staff meetings and communicate important updates, expectations, and changes.
Ensure staff properly document services, activities, incidents, medications, appointments, and other required information.
Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Ensure individuals receive prescribed medications according to established procedures and applicable regulations.
Coordinate medical appointments, transportation, community activities, and other necessary services.
Maintain communication with families, guardians, case managers, healthcare providers, and other members of the individual's support team.
Assist with the development and implementation of individual service plans and behavioral support strategies.
Monitor individuals' progress and report significant changes or concerns to appropriate supervisors.
Respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, behavioral concerns, and other incidents.
Complete and submit incident reports and other required documentation in a timely manner.
Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and comfortable residential environment.
Monitor household supplies, food, equipment, and other necessary resources.
Assist with grocery shopping, meal planning, and household budgeting as assigned.
Ensure meals are prepared and served according to individual dietary requirements.
Coordinate transportation and ensure vehicles are maintained and used appropriately.
Promote community participation, independence, socialization, and meaningful activities.
Protect the confidentiality and privacy of individuals served.
Ensure the home remains in compliance with company policies, licensing requirements, health and safety standards, and applicable regulations.
Participate in inspections, audits, training, and quality-assurance activities.
Address staff and household concerns promptly and communicate unresolved issues to management.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Residential Director or Program Director.

Staff Supervision

The Residential House Manager is expected to provide effective leadership to residential staff by:

Setting clear expectations for staff performance.
Providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
Identifying training needs.
Addressing performance and attendance issues appropriately.
Promoting teamwork and professionalism.
Ensuring staff follow individual service plans and company procedures.
Recognizing and reporting excellent performance as well as areas requiring improvement.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in human services, social services, healthcare, psychology, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, or other vulnerable populations preferred.
Previous supervisory or residential management experience preferred.
Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation.
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
Must demonstrate professionalism, patience, compassion, dependability, and respect for individuals served.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Must successfully complete required background checks, reference checks, training, and other pre-employment requirements.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record may be required depending on program needs.

Physical and Work Requirements

Ability to work in a residential setting and interact directly with individuals receiving services.
Ability to assist with household and program-related activities as required.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or be available for emergencies when required.
Ability to remain calm and professional during challenging or emergency situations.
May occasionally be required to assist with lifting, transferring, mobility support, or personal-care tasks consistent with training and individual needs.

Performance Expectations

The successful House Manager will ensure that the residential home operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with all applicable requirements while creating a supportive environment that promotes the independence, dignity, choice, safety, and quality of life of every individual served.

The Residential House Manager will report to the Fescum, Inc. office located at 4300 Forbes Boulevard, Site 130, Lanham, MD 20706, as needed for meetings, administrative responsibilities, training, and coordination with management.

The primary work location will be the residential home in Washington, DC, where the House Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the home and provide support to ensure a safe, organized, and well-maintained environment.

The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with a one-hour break each day. On Wednesdays, the schedule is 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, with a one-hour break. The Residential House Manager will also be required to work every other Saturday, based on the needs of the home and residents.

The position requires flexibility and may include travel between the Fescum, Inc. office and the residential home in Washington, DC when necessary.
