Broomsedge Rod & Gun — Kitchen Team Member

Description

Broomsedge Rod & Gun is located in Soperton, Georgia on generations-old family farms. We have thousands of acres of land, including managed food plots for birds and deer, 40 beaver ponds, and 25 lakes. The farms are a sporting paradise where we hunt duck, quail, pheasant, turkey, deer, hogs, and predators. Our land, our wildlife, and our hospitality offer an unrivaled place for our members to enjoy year-round — and the table is a big part of that experience.

Available Position: Full-Time Kitchen Team Member

We are looking for a dependable, hardworking individual to work alongside our head cook in the lodge kitchen. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys cooking, takes pride in feeding people well, and wants to learn in a hands-on hospitality environment. Lodge cooking is not restaurant cooking — you will be helping put out hearty, home-style meals for a known number of guests at set times, often built around wild game taken on the property that morning.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Food Preparation & Cooking

Assist the head cook with prep, cooking, and plating for lodge guests.
Help prepare early breakfasts ahead of morning hunts, pack field lunches, and get dinners and appetizers out on time.
Clean, break down, and cook wild game, including quail, dove, duck, pheasant, turkey, venison, and hogs.
Prepare sides, desserts, and other menu items following the head cook's direction and recipes.
Follow guest dietary restrictions and allergy instructions carefully.
Once fully trained, cover the kitchen on the head cook's days off. These are typically smaller groups with straightforward menus, and you will not be left on your own until both you and the head cook are confident you are ready.
Provide an extra set of hands during peak hunting season and back-to-back guest groups.

Inventory & Ordering Support

Help maintain food and supply inventory; receive and check in deliveries and rotate stock.
Help track par levels, run counts, and build order lists for the head cook's review.
Keep the walk-in, freezer, and dry storage clean, labeled, dated, and organized.
Flag shortages early, well ahead of guest arrivals.
Help keep waste down and use product efficiently.

Service & Guest Experience

Help set up and break down buffets and family-style service; plate and serve guests.
Interact professionally and warmly with members and their guests, many of whom return year after year.
Assist with beverage service and bar setup as needed.
Reset the dining room between meals and help with special events and member dinners.

Cleanliness & Food Safety

Keep the kitchen, dining areas, and storage clean, organized, and sanitary at all times.
Wash dishes, run the dish pit, and help close the kitchen properly at the end of service.
Follow all food safety, temperature, handling, and sanitation standards.
Help clean and maintain kitchen equipment; report problems promptly.

Team Support & Off-Season Work

Assist with housekeeping and lodge turn duties between guest groups as needed.
Work as part of a small team to deliver a consistent, outstanding guest experience.
During our slower months, help with deep cleaning, equipment care, inventory resets, recipe and menu preparation for the coming season, and other lodge and property projects as needed.

Qualifications

Required

Basic cooking knowledge and a genuine willingness to learn.
Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to work well with others.
Comfortable in a fast-paced kitchen and able to stay organized under pressure.
Willingness to work independently after training and take ownership of a shift.
Flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays during hunting season.
Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
Valid driver's license and ability to pass a standard background check.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in a hot kitchen environment.
Discretion and professionalism around members and their guests.

Preferred

Previous experience in a restaurant, lodge, club, camp, church, or catering kitchen.
ServSafe Food Handler certification, or willingness to obtain within 60 days (we will pay for it).
Experience cleaning and cooking wild game, or a willingness to learn.
Baking experience.
Comfort with the outdoors and an interest in the hunting and sporting lifestyle.

Compensation & Benefits

$34,000–$42,000 annually, depending on experience.
Full-time, year-round position — our busiest months run through hunting season, with a slower stretch in the off-season when duties shift to preparation, projects, and property support.
