Full Job Description

Who we are: Paragon Safety Group provides safety services to construction clients throughout the Eastern US. Headquartered in Raleigh, we provide workplace safety training, consulting, and on-site safety professionals to help our clients keep their jobsites safe.

What we need: Paragon Safety Group has a safety position at construction jobsite in the South Boston, VA area and we are seeking a safety professional who might fill this position in the role of an On-Site Safety Manager.

This is a 2-year contract position.

Our positions are temporary W-2 positions with full-time hours (often shifts are 8 to 10 hours per day, and some jobs will offer the potential for significant overtime). In this job, you'd work on the construction site, coaching workers to ensure the safe operations on behalf of the Paragon client, either a site owner, general contractor, or specialty subcontractor.

The person will identify and correct unsafe working conditions, conduct field inspections and ensure compliance with OSHA standards.

Job Duties of the On-Site Safety Specialist

Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company's electrical safety program in compliance with OSHA 1926 Subpart K, OSHA 1910 Subpart S, NFPA 70E, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
Conduct arc flash risk assessments and ensure proper arc-rated PPE selection, labeling, and use across all electrical work.
Audit and enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures on all de-energization and energized work activities.
Review and approve Energized Electrical Work Permits (EEWP) prior to any work performed on energized equipment.
Conduct routine jobsite inspections and audits focused on electrical hazards, temporary power, grounding/bonding, and PPE compliance.
Investigate electrical incidents, near misses, and equipment failures; lead root-cause analysis and corrective action plans.
Deliver electrical safety training and toolbox talks to field staff, foremen, and superintendents, including NFPA 70E annual retraining.
Partner with project management and estimating to ensure electrical safety requirements are incorporated into project planning, schedules, and site-specific safety plans (SSSPs/APPs).
Maintain qualified electrical worker documentation and verify subcontractor electrical safety compliance.
Track and report electrical safety KPIs (near misses, incidents, audit findings, training completion) to the Corporate Safety Manager and leadership team.
Stay current on changes to NFPA 70E, NEC, and OSHA electrical standards, and update internal policy accordingly.
Support new project mobilizations with electrical hazard assessments, temporary power planning, and site-specific electrical safety orientation.

The successful candidate has:

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical construction, with at least 3 years in a dedicated safety role.
Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA 1926 Subpart K, and OSHA 1910.147 (LOTO) required.
OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required; OSHA 500 (Trainer Course) preferred.
NFPA 70E Qualified Electrical Worker / Arc Flash Safety certification required.
Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
Prior journeyman or master electrician licensure a strong plus.
Experience with federal construction projects (NAVFAC, USACE, or similar) preferred, including familiarity with EM 385-1-1 requirements.
Strong working knowledge of arc flash studies, incident energy analysis, and PPE category selection.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to train and influence field crews at all levels.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety management/reporting software.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to multiple active project sites as required.
