JOB SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the EEC Director, the lead teacher role is intended as an opportunity for teachers to begin to develop their skill set as a leader and administrator within the center. The lead teacher will work a portion of the day in the classroom coaching and mentoring teachers, ensuring that teachers are providing an engaging, safe, and healthy, developmentally appropriate classroom environment. The Lead Teacher will work closely with the Director to learn the day to day administrative tasks vital to operating the center. The Lead Teacher ultimately will provide direct supervision of ECE teachers, and support all teachers to ensure that the center environment provides for the healthy development of each child in accordance with the policies, procedures and best practices of the Early Education program. The Lead Teacher assumes administrative responsibility over the center when the Director and Assistant Director are not present at the center and needs to engage as an effective member of the administrative team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Meet Title 22 regulations for a fully qualified teacher including: completion of the 9 core units, 3 units in infant/toddler preferred, 1 year teaching in a Preschool setting.
- Complete 3 units of Administration within 1 year of position start date.
- Child Development permit at the Associate teacher or higher level with a professional developmental plan in place to obtain a permit at the Site Supervisor level.
- Preferred that the Lead Teacher will have successfully completed one year of teaching within the Maryvale Early Education Center.
- Strong planning, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to form positive relationships with others.
- An understanding of current issues and trends in ECE.
- Basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Demonstrate a passion and commitment for the Mission and Vincentian Core Values of Maryvale and the Daughters of Charity.

4. Follow the Trauma Informed Care philosophy when supporting and addressing the needs of the children and families Maryvale serves.
5. Utilize Trauma Informed Care approach in recognizing the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledge the role that trauma has played in the lives of the clients/residents.
6. Assist in the healing process by developing appropriate RICH® (Respect, Information, Connection and Hope) relationships with those served.
7. Follow Universal Precautions when exposed to blood and body fluids.
8. Follow Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) regulations pertaining to safety and the use of equipment/machinery.
9. Support Maryvale’s Performance and Quality Improvement Plan and participate in discussion regarding department or program goals, data collection and/or analysis.
10. Review lesson plans to ensure that the Creative Curriculum is implemented and that all objectives are in accordance with the philosophy, policies and procedures of Maryvale; work with teaching teams to accomplish said objectives. Coach and monitor teachers to ensure that lesson plans meet the individual and group needs of the classroom and are put into action.
11. Act as a support and model for teachers in planning and implementing activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program through the creation of lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and in line with the philosophy of the center. A portion of each day is to be spent in the classroom.
12. Provide virtual learning opportunities daily through various methods to maintain the developmental progress of currently enrolled children. These methods should include but are not limited to: email, online learning platforms, and video. Maryvale will post videos online via social media platforms managed by the agency and via the agency website. Maryvale owns and maintains all rights for educational content created for the purposes of educating children and families or advertising our Early Education Programs. Content may continue to be posted after an Associate ends their employment with Maryvale.
13. Support teachers in the completion of Desired Results Development (DRDP) assessments. Report out as required data related to DRDP compliance including that teachers meet with parents for conferences at 60 days, 6 months for review of DRDP and periodically as needed. Complete anecdotal observations of children to assist teachers in the completion of DRDP assessments.
14. With support of the Director, educate and support teachers in the appropriate Environmental Rating Scale tool for their age group. Assist in completing the appropriate Environmental Rating Scale (ERS) tool for the center, and support teachers to ensure that a minimum rating of 5 is obtained in each area.
15. Verify that health and safety standards and procedures are effectively executed including but not limited to: daily sanitation, diaper changing, record keeping/daily reports, safe sleep, safety checklists, adherence to allergy lists and food program documentation at point of service.
16. Ensure equipment and the facility is clean, well maintained and safe at all times. Maintain sanitation and safety checklists to ensure compliance with regulations. Conduct formal walk-throughs of the classrooms several times throughout the day.
17. Ensure that children are visually supervised at all times.
18. Maintain compliance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Title 5, Title 22, Maryvale policy and procedure.
19. Supervise, coach and encourage Associates daily and provide regular feedback regarding their development.
20. Maintain a professional growth plan that challenges the Lead Teacher to continue their education within the field of ECE through college coursework, workshops or other appropriate trainings, working towards a site supervisor level permit with a required 21 hours of professional development annually.
21. Immediately take action when there is concern for the safety or well-being of children, families or Associates, regardless of program area, and report said concern as soon as it is safe to do so. Report unusual incidents to Center Director/Assistant Director, VP of ECE and Community Care Licensing as soon as it is practical to do so.
22. Communicate with Associates, children and families in accordance with the Maryvale communication policy including but not limited to face to face, via email, video conference and telephone to monitor, inform and support families.
23. Recruit families for enrollment and effectively communicate with families and staff regarding the enrollment status of children and families.
24. Provide feedback and support the planning of Associate meetings, parent education events, family council, family night events and written communication with families.
25. Ensure that all children and Associates have accurate and complete files present at the facility, prior to their enrollment.
26. Assist and actively participate in the recruitment, hiring, training and development of EEC Associates, and effectively communicate with the Director regarding Associates assigned to each program area.
27. Works in cooperation with fellow Associates to strive for team cohesiveness.
28. Exhibit compassionate service, utilizing patience and empathy.
29. Maintain confidentiality.
30. Use common sense and good judgement to act in accordance with Maryvale policy and procedure. Problem solve and make sound judgments in all areas affecting the care and supervision of the children entrusted to the care of the program.
31. When necessary, call for assistance and respond to emergency situations accordingly.
32. Act in the capacity of Center Administrator whenever the Director and Assistant Director are unable to be present at the center.
33. When acting in the capacity of Director the Lead Teacher will maintain administrative responsibility for the day to day administration of the whole EEC, and report to the Director and VP of ECE.
34. Performs related functions as may be assigned.
