Chef de Cuisine– Asian/American Fusion

Summary

Petals of A Peony is seeking a creative and experienced Executive Chef with strong knowledge of both Asian—especially Chinese—and American cuisine.

Our top priority is finding a chef who can help develop exciting new dishes that thoughtfully combine Asian and American flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques. The ideal candidate will also be a confident kitchen leader who can organize daily operations, build positive working relationships, maintain a calm, respectful, and efficient kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

Create, test, and launch original dishes that combine Asian/Chinese and American culinary traditions.
Improve existing recipes while maintaining consistent flavor, presentation, quality, and portion size.
Develop seasonal specials and menu concepts that appeal to our customers.
Lead, train, schedule, and motivate cooks and other kitchen employees.
Clearly assign responsibilities and coordinate the team during busy service periods.
Build a respectful and cooperative kitchen culture through clear communication and fair leadership.
Address disagreements and performance concerns promptly and professionally.
Oversee food preparation, plating, inventory, ordering, and waste control.
Maintain high standards for food safety, sanitation, cleanliness, and kitchen organization.
Manage food and labor costs while protecting product quality.
Work closely with ownership and front-of-house management on menu planning, customer feedback, and restaurant operations.
Ensure all dishes are prepared consistently and served on time.

Required Qualifications

Professional cooking experience with both Asian/Chinese and American cuisine.
Demonstrated ability to develop original recipes and fusion menu items.
Previous experience leading or supervising a professional kitchen team.
Strong communication, organization, and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to remain calm, respectful, and decisive in a fast-paced environment.
Thorough knowledge of food safety, sanitation, inventory management, and cost control.
Ability to train employees with different experience levels and working styles.
Food Handler or Food Manager certification, if required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience launching a new menu or restaurant concept.
Strong knowledge of regional Chinese ingredients and cooking techniques.
Experience adapting traditional recipes for a modern American dining audience.
Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience.
