Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and energetic Activity Director to lead engaging, meaningful programs that enhance the quality of life for residents in a senior living community. In this vital role, you will design, coordinate, and oversee a diverse array of recreational activities tailored to meet the physical, emotional, and social needs of residents. Your enthusiasm and creativity will foster a vibrant community atmosphere, promoting independence, well-being, and joy among seniors with varying levels of care needs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact through innovative program development and compassionate engagement.

Duties

Develop and implement dynamic activity programs that cater to residents’ interests, abilities, and care requirements, including memory care and dementia support.
Coordinate special events, outings, recreational therapy sessions, and therapeutic activities that encourage social interaction and cognitive stimulation.
Collaborate with nursing staff, social workers, caregivers, and family members to assess individual resident needs and preferences for personalized activity planning.
Lead group activities such as arts and crafts, music therapy, exercise classes, games, and educational workshops to promote mental and physical health.
Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) when needed during activities to ensure safety and participation.
Manage scheduling for activities ensuring optimal participation while balancing staffing resources efficiently.
Maintain detailed records of resident participation, progress notes, and activity outcomes to support care planning and regulatory compliance.

Experience

Proven experience in event planning within assisted living facilities or nursing homes; familiarity with senior care environments is highly preferred.
Strong background in recreational therapy, dementia care, Alzheimer’s care, or geriatrics with an understanding of aging issues counseling.
Demonstrated ability to develop engaging programs tailored to individuals with disabilities or memory impairments.
Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with residents of all cognitive levels as well as team members and families.
Prior experience working with geriatric patients or in long-term care settings is essential; home & community care experience is a plus.
Knowledge of assisting residents with ADLs and managing schedules efficiently while maintaining a compassionate approach.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team committed to enhancing residents’ quality of life through creative programming.
