Full Job Description

Job Title: Life Skills Coach

Reporting to: Clinical Director

Location: The Core Collective at Saint Vincent

Position Overview:

The Life Skills Coach is responsible for providing support to youth in both one-on-one and group environments in an effort to improve the youth’s relationships, careers, educational status, and day-to-day lives. By targeting a youth’s unique skills and gifts, the Life Skills Coach will assist the youth in clarifying their goals, identifying obstacles to these goals, and then assist with creating a strategy to overcome each of these obstacles.

The Life Skills Coach works with youth in our TLP, SOP/HUB, and Community Programming helping to develop the skills needed for independance. This position drives evidence-informed approaches, leads change efforts in support of The Core Collective’s continuous improvement of clinical services and programmatic efforts, and ensures the safety of youth while empowering them in achieving their goals.

Typical Hours: Weekdays from 11:00am to 7:30pm, Every other Saturday.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in human or social services or a closely related field. Master’s degree in counseling or social work is preferred.
Must be adaptable, flexible, and possess excellent interpersonal, communication, change management, and administrative skills.
The ideal candidate should have at least one (1) year of experience in providing life skills coaching in individual and group settings. Experience with supportive housing, outreach services, and/or case management services is preferred.
Additionally, experience and knowledge of adolescent development, child welfare, trauma-informed clinical approaches, and working with highly vulnerable youth is preferred.
Must have an acceptable background check and no record of child abuse.
First aid, CPR, and Medication Administration training must be completed within forty-five (45) days of hire (employer provided).

Oversight Responsibilities:

Master curriculum developer for the life skills program.
Uses data to identify community and internal program needs in the development of curriculum for youth.
Oversees the CORE Cafe--a hands on Workforce Development Program for Youth

Lead Life Skills Coach Responsibilities:

Employ Motivational Interviewing skills and other evidence-based techniques with youth to achieve consensus on individualized goals.
Create a personalized plan to meet these needs and goals.
Identify internal and external obstacles related to the youth’s stated goals and assist the youth with developing a plan to address these obstacles.
Coach youth through challenging situations to help them learn how to deal with these situations on their own.
Assist youth in planning strategic career moves and developing leadership skills.
Identify new employment opportunities for the youth by cultivating personal relationships with the local business community.
Provide job readiness and interview skills training to support youth in obtaining and maintaining employment.
Assist youth with continuing their education in the most appropriate form and when applicable, help youth locate financial aid and other funding to pay for their educations.
Assist youth with developing the necessary soft skills they will need as they progress into the next phases of their life.
Teach useful emotional and behavioral regulation techniques.
Provide support and resources to help youth meet their goals, including helping them develop an action plan with specific steps that can be applied in a variety of situations.
Ensure that youth have the resources they need to succeed in their goals, including materials and other individuals who can provide support.
Evaluate youth’s advancement toward goal actualization.
Encourage continued and sustainable growth.
Complete and maintain all clinical and administrative records pertaining to youth in an accurate and timely manner.
Consult with agency staff and collateral entities to ensure coordination of services for assigned youth.
Conduct appropriate assessments with youth as needed.
Maintain appropriate and professional boundaries with the youth at all times.
Must subscribe to a teamwork mentality and have the ability to build trust and confidence within the team framework.
The ability to establish effective relationships with all levels within the agency as well as with the general public and representatives of other agencies and organizations.
Other duties as assigned.
