Peninsula Bridge is seeking experienced, passionate, 6th/7th-grade ELA or Math educators for our After School Academy at our Menlo School (Atherton), Synapse School (Menlo Park), Crittenden (Mountain View) or Nueva (San Mateo) sites (September 2026-May 2027).

Schedule:

This is a part-time, on-site, two-day-a-week teaching role, from 3:45 - 5:45 pm, plus approximately 1 hour of administrative and collaborative work each week. There are approximately 50 total teaching days for the year. If requested, a teacher can work at two sites simultaneously for a total of 4 days a week.

Days/Times/Locations available:

Menlo School (Atherton) - Mondays/Wednesdays - 3:45 - 5:45 pm (looking for an ELA educator 6th / 7th )

Synapse School (Menlo Park) - Tuesdays/Thursdays - 3:45 - 5:45 pm (looking for an ELA or Math 6th/7th educator)

Crittenden School (Mountain View) - Mondays/Wednesdays - 3:45-5:45pm (looking for a ELA 6th/7th educator)

Nueva School (San Mateo) - Tuesdays/Thursdays- 3:45-5:45pm (looking for a Math 6th/7th educator)

Pay: $75/hr for teaching; $35/hr for meetings and administrative work

With a high-quality teaching staff, engaging curriculum, and a long-term commitment from participants and their families, Peninsula Bridge prepares students for success in school, college, career, and life.

Job Description

Instructors will teach a class of 15-20 students using the Peninsula Bridge curriculum. For one semester, they will teach a 6th-grade ELA or Math class, and for the other, a 7th-grade ELA or Math class (depending on experience/interest). The ELA lessons focus on strengthening English-language writing and reading skills. The Math lessons focus on grade-level curriculum. The after-school curriculum is based on Common Core standards. There is no curriculum design required, and all lesson plans and materials will be prepared and provided by Peninsula Bridge.

Classes meet twice per week during the academic year after school hours. Instructors are responsible for being well-prepared for all sessions and for reading all communications (lesson plans, email announcements, etc.). In addition to teaching, there are monthly site debrief meetings, 2-3 training sessions outside of the regularly scheduled program time, and collaboration with the site-based coordinator and instructional lead. Instructors are expected to analyze student work and assessments and use it to inform their teaching. At the conclusion of each semester, instructors will provide an assessment and narrative comment for each student.

Instructors are part of a collaborative site-based team with four to five other teachers, a Site Coordinator who is also a full-time Peninsula Bridge Staff member, and an Instructional Lead who reports to the Director of Middle School Programs.

Ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including colleagues, families, volunteers, and visitors
Experience working with diverse learners
Effective organization skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing
Bachelor’s Degree

Masters Degree

Additional Information

This is an hourly position. Compensation is:
$75/hr. for Direct Teaching Hours
$35/hr. for Administrative Tasks (trainings, teacher meetings, assessment)
There are an average of 25 sessions per semester, 50 sessions per year (September-May) and one teacher training day in August.
We observe school holidays and in-service days. These are unpaid.
