REPS is a 501(c)(3) not-for profit organization whose mission is to preserve, protect, and promote life by raising awareness and providing a lifeline of support and healing in our community. REPS provides crisis support, education, training, prevention and postvention support. REPS staff, Board of Directors, and skilled volunteers are dedicated to combating suicide and breaking mental health stigma.
As the Youth Programs Coordinator, you play a critical role in ensuring training and education services are provided to youth throughout the valley. The ideal candidate is responsible for supporting REPS' youth mental health and suicide prevention initiatives. You will assist with the Steamboat Springs High School's Hope Squad, and facilitate youth mental health training and education across schools in the Yampa Valley. This is a seasonal, part-time position and works under the direction of the REPS Executive Director and the REPS Marketing & Communications Coordinator.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of youth program training and facilitation to ensure engaging, effective, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- Drive youth and community outreach initiatives by building strong partnerships, expanding program awareness, and fostering meaningful engagement to support participation and impact.
- Ensure strict adherence to confidentiality standards and regulatory compliance by safeguarding sensitive information and consistently following all applicable policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Job Responsibilities
Lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of youth program training and facilitation to ensure engaging, effective, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
- As a REPS’ liaison, assist the Steamboat Springs High School Hope Squad program by supporting student peer leaders and promoting mental health initiatives.
- Host monthly meetings with the SSHS Hope Squad to assist with program implementation and student engagement (approximately 3-4 hours/month).
- Deliver "It’s Real: Teens & Mental Health" presentations in schools and the community, focusing on mental health awareness and suicide prevention for teens.
- In collaboration with the It Takes Courage Program Coordinator, facilitate the "It Takes Courage" program at Steamboat Springs Middle School, and facilitate "It's Real for Middle School" programming across the Yampa Valley.
- These programs use a combination of video content, engagement activities, and discussion to promote mental health awareness, emotional well-being, and how to reach out for help.
- Connect with school counselors and behavioral health staff when requested to provide adequate support and resources to ensure that school faculty and staff are confident in how to utilize suicide prevention within their scope of responsibility.
- Facilitate a 1/2 year youth internship program. Recruit high school aged interns, and support them in building an advocacy project revolving around suicide prevention. Meet weekly with interns and monitor group and individual progress.
Drive youth and community outreach initiatives by building strong partnerships, expanding program awareness, and fostering meaningful engagement to support participation and impact.
- Communicate with schools across the Yampa Valley to ensure program needs, aiming to expand mental health education to all middle and high schools, including Steamboat Springs, South Routt, Hayden, and Moffat County districts.
- Conduct quarterly presentations at schools across the Yampa Valley (including Steamboat Springs, South Routt, Hayden, and Moffat County). Each presentation will require preparation, delivery, and follow-up. There are usually multiple presentations per school for different class periods.
- Attend regular Routt County Youth Services Coalition meetings to stay up to date on local youth services and collaborate with other youth serving organizations in the community.
- Support youth-led initiatives, REPS events, and community outreach efforts as needed.
Ensure strict adherence to confidentiality standards and regulatory compliance by safeguarding sensitive information and consistently following all applicable policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of program activities, meetings, and presentations. Regularly report progress to the Executive Director and assist with program evaluations.
- Ensure all activities comply with HIPAA and REPS confidentiality policies. Maintain strict confidentiality when dealing with youth participants.
- Always maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and REPS privacy policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, public health, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in youth development, mental health education, or related fields preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with youth, school staff, and community partners.
- Ability to facilitate discussions and presentations with youth groups effectively.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple programs and activities.
- LivingWorks START certification within first 30 days
- QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) certification within 3 months of employment.
- ASIST training is also encouraged.
- Clean driving record and proof of insurance.
