Full Job Description

Jewish HomeLife is looking for CMA’s to work in our Home Care division, Eckstein Home Care.

Summary: The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) under the direction of the Director of Nursing is responsible for dispensing oral, inhalation and topical medications to patients. They observe patients for drug reactions and report any problems to the nurse(s). Certified Medication Aides monitor patient’s vital signs, medication dosages and supplies, and stock the medication cart. They perform daily med cart inspections for adherence to state and federal guidelines. Certified medication aides also record what medications were given for the day and the dosage in the nurse’s medication administration record (MAR).

Qualifications:

Georgia Certified Medication Aide required.
Georgia Certified Nurse Aide required.
Must be in good standing with the Georgia CNA/CMA Registry.
A minimum of two years experience with long term care or assisted living population preferred.
High School Diploma required.
Must be able to take direction and supervision, to follow directions, and to work on a team in the care of the residents and general functions of assisted living communities.
Ability to work evenings, weekends and flexible hours when necessary to meet the needs of residents.

Responsibilities:

Deliver routine daily medications, either prescription or non–prescription, to patients.
Coordinate with different nurses/med-techs to assist with patient care and medications.
Follow written or verbal instructions on how to manage medications.
Record medication dosages and times.
Observe patients and document changes in their conditions.
Ensure equipment is routinely inspected and cleaned.
Administer physician ordered medication to residents and maintain related medical records under the supervision of the Director of Nursing.
Verify identity of residents receiving medication and record name of drug, dosage, route, and time of administration on specified forms of records
Presents medication to resident and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures
Takes vital signs or observes residents to detect response to specified types of medication and prepares report or notifies designed personnel of unexpected reactions
Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
Adheres to medication administration policy.
May receive supply of ordered medications and apportion, mix, or assemble drugs for administration to resident.
May record and restock medication inventory.
Uphold all health and safety standards.
Respond to patient emergency call signals, bells, or intercom systems to identify patient needs.
Responsible for maintenance of electronic medical records, assuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with regulations, certification standards, legal and ethical standards.
Maintains Georgia state CMA requirements for assisted living community.
When not actively dispensing medications or preparing medications for the next set of rounds, certified medication aides revert to the duties they share with other certified nurses’ aides.

Competencies:

Practices infection control and special precautions in all resident care duties.
Works with integrity; upholds organizational values.
Must be able to work semi-independently and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating procedures, policies and employee manuals.
Ability to speak effectively in front of others.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations.
High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation, and interaction with residents' families and families experiencing loss.
Attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
Must be proficient in English and able to read, write and follow instructions in English.
Demonstrates and knowledgeable of the Six (6) Rights of Medication Pass ("Right" resident, medication, dosage, time, route, right to refuse).
Successfully completes initial and annual comprehensive clinical skills competency review.

Supervisory Responsibility: No supervisory responsibility.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 30 pounds; ability to stand for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements: Ability to focus on residents ongoing needs; ability to document medication administration.

Pay: Up to $19.00 per hour
