We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Site Safety Coordinator for a temporary assignment with our construction team in the Stockton, CA area. This temporary position may provide the opportunity to transition into a full-time role with the company based on business needs, performance, and overall fit.
In this role, you will report directly to the Safety Director and will be responsible for supporting the planning, implementation, and enforcement of safety policies and procedures across all phases of construction to help ensure a safe and compliant work environment for all personnel on-site.
The ideal candidate is a proactive safety professional with hands-on construction experience, strong leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of Cal/OSHA regulations, and construction industry best practices.

Requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Maintain, implement, and enforce site-specific safety plans, programs, and procedures.
-
Conduct daily site safety inspections and document findings, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and review Method of Procedures (MOPs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) for all high-risk activities before work begins.
- Lead daily/weekly toolbox talks and safety huddles to reinforce hazard awareness.

Communicate safety expectations, updates, and lessons learned across all trades and shifts.

Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions promptly; determine root cause.
- Prepare corrective action reports and track implementation to closure.

Ensure ongoing compliance with Cal/OSHA, federal OSHA, and local jurisdictional safety regulations.

Maintain accurate safety records, documentation, logs, and reports.

Coordinate and deliver site safety training (new-hire orientation, task-specific training, refreshers) as needed.
- Monitor and enforce specialized safety programs including:
- Fall protection (Title 8 §1670 et seq.)

Confined space entry (permit-required spaces)

Excavation and trenching (competent person requirements)

Crane and rigging operations
-
Hot work / fire prevention
-
Ensure permits, inspections, and competent-person designations are current for each program.

Partner with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to integrate safety planning into scheduling, means and methods, and daily operations.
- Participate in pre-construction and subcontractor pre-qualification meetings to align safety expectations before mobilization.

Manage and maintain first aid supplies, emergency response plans, and evacuation procedures.

Serve as primary point of contact for safety-related regulatory inspections or audits.
Certifications & Trainings:
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training (completed within the last 3 years)

Active First Aid and CPR certifications (current, non-expired)

Competent Person designation and training in hazards applicable to the scope of work, including:

Experience:
- 3–5 years of experience working on active construction sites in a safety leadership capacity, including roles such as:

Safety Specialist

Site Safety Officer or equivalent

Demonstrated knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Industry Experience:

OSHPD (Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development) project experience is a significant plus, particularly for healthcare construction environments.

Knowledge of Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) and Pre-Construction Risk Assessment (PCRA) requirements, procedures, and documentation.
Accredited Safety Certifications (Highly Recommended, Not Required):

Candidates holding one or more of the following certifications will be given strong preference:

STSC – Safety Trained Supervisor Construction

CHST – Construction Health and Safety Technician

CSHO – Construction Safety and Health Official

Other BCSP-recognized or equivalent accredited safety credentials

Physical Exertion Requirements

1. Sedentary Work
Definition: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve brief periods of walking or standing.
Examples in Role:
Conducting safety data analysis at a desk.
Reviewing safety reports, documentation, and compliance logs.
Participating in virtual meetings or completing training modules.
Preparing and updating safety forms, procedures, and training materials.
2. Light Work
Definition: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly. Requires a good deal of walking or standing, or involves sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
Examples in Role:
Walking job sites for inspections.
Carrying a laptop/iPad, clipboard, or small safety equipment bag.
Demonstrating proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Climbing one or two flights of stairs in an office or site trailer.
3. Medium Work
Definition: Exerting 20–50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10–25 pounds frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly.
Examples in Role:
Carrying boxes of safety supplies or training materials.
Transporting portable signage, cones, or barricades.
Moving small tools or safety equipment during inspections.
Climbing ladders or scaffolds during safety observations.
4. Heavy Work
Definition: Exerting 50–100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25–50 pounds frequently, and/or 10–20 pounds constantly.
Examples in Role:
Assisting in lifting or moving heavy safety equipment, fall protection gear, or materials during incident investigations.
Setting up or dismantling temporary guardrails or heavy barricades.
Moving large fire extinguishers or compressed gas cylinders for inspections.
Participating in rescue drills involving simulated casualty extraction.
5. Very Heavy Work
Definition: Exerting over 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or over 50 pounds frequently, and/or over 20 pounds constantly.
Examples in Role:
Rare in routine duties but may be required during emergency situations.
Assisting with removal of injured personnel from confined spaces or elevated work areas.
Participating in rescue operations requiring lifting or dragging heavy individuals or materials.
Handling large, awkward objects during emergency response.
6. Additional Physical Requirements for Safety Managers in Construction:
Mobility: Ability to walk long distances, navigate uneven terrain, climb ladders and scaffolding, and enter confined spaces.
Vision: Close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus for reading reports, identifying hazards, and observing work activities.
Hearing: Ability to hear and understand speech in noisy environments and to detect safety alarms, warnings, and equipment sounds.
