Sumter County is Currently Seeking a Technical Services Assistant for the Sumter County Library
Compensation: $16.00 Per Hour

Position Summary
The Technical Services Assistant supports the management and maintenance of the Library's collection by processing new materials, entering and updating records within the Integrated Library System (ILS), and assisting with cataloging and collection maintenance activities. This position plays a vital role in ensuring library materials are organized, accessible, and available to patrons in a timely manner.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Processes new library materials and enters collection records into the Integrated Library System (ILS).
Assists with cataloging, classification, and physical preparation of library materials.
Maintains the library collection through the repair, replacement, or withdrawal of materials.
Prioritizes workflow to ensure timely processing of high-demand materials, special requests, and new releases.
Maintains accurate records and databases related to library collections.
Assists with collection management projects and inventory activities.
Performs opening, closing, and facility safety procedures as assigned.
Assists at other library locations or service areas as needed.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Additional education, training, or coursework beyond high school is preferred.
Prior experience in library technical services, cataloging, records management, or a related field is preferred.
Experience using standard office equipment and computer software.
Ability to learn and utilize library-specific software and systems.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of library practices, procedures, and technical services functions.
Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and cataloging principles preferred.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
Ability to maintain accurate records and perform data entry with a high degree of precision.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to push loaded book carts weighing more than 100 pounds.
Ability to safely handle library materials, equipment, and supplies.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in a public library and technical services environment.
Frequent use of computers and library management software.
Regular handling and processing of books, media, and library materials.
Work may involve deadlines associated with collection processing and special projects.
Schedule may include daytime, evening, and weekend hours based on operational needs.
