Full Job Description

AV Technician

Stanford Law School · Office of Information Technology

Temporary · Part-Time (19 hrs/week or less) · Hourly · Evenings & Weekends Required · On-Site

(Stanford, CA) · The expected pay range for this position is $40-$45 per hour.

About the Role

Stanford Law School's IT Department is hiring a temporary, part-time AV Technician to extend our

team's coverage into the evenings and weekends, when many of the school's lectures, panels,

symposia, and special events take place. The primary focus is AV and event support — running live

AV for events, capturing recordings, and supporting hybrid Zoom sessions — with additional time

supporting general IT through end-user support, device deployment, and ticket triage during quieter

periods or business-hour overlap.

Schedule

This role requires availability for evening (after 5:00 PM) and weekend hours, with some overlap

into the regular business day for handoffs, prep, team coordination, and IT support coverage. Hours

vary week to week based on the law school's event calendar.

What You'll Do

Primary Focus — AV & Media Services

Set up, operate, and tear down AV equipment for classes, lectures, panels, receptions, and

special events.

Run microphones, mixers, projectors, document cameras, and presentation systems; support

presenters in real time.

Operate Zoom and other video conferencing platforms for hybrid events.
Capture audio and video recordings, monitor quality, and assist with light post-production.
Support the AV equipment loan program — checking gear in and out, inspecting returns, and

maintaining inventory.

Additional Support — General IT

Provide Tier 1 support to faculty, students, and staff: laptop, desktop, printer, and conference-

room troubleshooting.

Triage, document, and resolve IT tickets; escalate complex issues to senior staff.
Help maintain IT and AV asset inventory; support the loaner laptop program.

What We're Looking For

Required: 1+ year of relevant AV, live event, media production, or IT support experience (or

equivalent combination of education and experience).

Working knowledge of professional AV equipment — mics, mixers, projectors, cameras,

recording devices.

Comfort with Zoom and Webex; ability to troubleshoot AV and basic computer/network issues

under live event pressure.

Working knowledge of Windows and/or macOS; ability to perform basic hardware and software

troubleshooting on laptops, desktops, and peripherals.

Strong customer service skills and a calm, professional presence with faculty, students, and

guests.

Ability to work independently and reliably commit to an evening/weekend schedule.Recommended: higher-ed AV or IT experience, hybrid event production, lecture-capture

systems, light video editing (Premiere, Final Cut), and familiarity with ticketing systems/email

queue (ServiceNow, Gmail)

Physical Requirements

Frequently stand, walk, and reach during event setup; lift up to 50 pounds; climb ladders and work

safely on stages or elevated platforms. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as required by
