Full Job Description

Job Summary
As the Director of Operations, you are responsible for the overall performance of construction operations, including portfolio financial success, resource forecasting and allocation, client ownership, and operational risk management. You direct a portfolio of projects and lead Project Managers and Superintendents, ensuring every project team executes in accordance with established operational disciplines, safety expectations, and quality standards. You serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, aligning field operations with company strategy and acting as an influential leader of the organization's culture and values.

Responsibilities

Set portfolio-level strategy for resource allocation, risk, and financial performance across all regions and project types, and drive adoption of operational standards and construction technology, including Procore and related platforms. The operating plan and resource forecast are updated quarterly, and the portfolio meets or exceeds annual financial targets.
Lead and develop a team of 15+ direct reports, providing clear expectations, coaching, and opportunities for continued growth and advancement. All performance reviews and development plans are completed on schedule, with succession candidates identified for every key role annually.
Direct company safety programs, audit processes, and subcontractor safety reporting, serving as the executive escalation point for safety events and regulatory audits. The portfolio meets or beats annual safety targets, with all scheduled audits completed and corrective actions closed.
Own executive-level client relationships and communication standards while supporting new business pursuits and negotiating escalated client and commercial matters. Client satisfaction and retention targets are met, with a quarterly executive touchpoint for every active client.
Own project P&Ls, directing WIP updates, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow schedules in partnership with accounting. Monthly WIP reviews are completed for 100% of active projects, margin variance stays within threshold, and GC/GR savings hit 5%.
Direct project controls, including cost tracking, procurement, and RFI logs, as well as master schedule and quality standards from contract through turnover. Master schedules are updated monthly on 100% of projects, with post-mortems completed within 30 days of closeout.
Direct prime contract compliance, subcontracting standards, and turnover documentation, serving as the escalation point for contract disputes. No contractual notices or milestones are missed, and closeout documents are delivered per contract schedule.
Serve as hiring manager for operations roles, directing onboarding standards and maintaining knowledge of labor law and hiring practices. The staffing plan stays current with open roles filled per plan, and every new hire is onboarded within schedule.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or an adjacent field required.
12+ years of progressive construction operations experience, including leadership of teams of 15 or more.
Proven experience managing projects and portfolios of $50M–$100M+.
Proficiency with construction management software, including Procore or equivalent, and project scheduling, cost control, tracking, and reporting tools.
Ability to read and understand project drawings, specifications, technical data, assembly methods, and O&M manuals.
Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Pay: $160,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
