Job Overview

Position: Tax Preparer

Department: Accounting & Tax Services

Reports To: Accounting Manager

We are seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and customer-focused Tax Preparer to join our growing accounting team. This individual will prepare individual and business tax returns, communicate directly with clients, maintain accurate tax records, and ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working with deadlines, values accuracy, and enjoys helping clients navigate the tax preparation process.

Salary Range: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Requirements

Required

Minimum 2 years of professional tax preparation experience.
Experience preparing individual tax returns.
Strong understanding of federal and state tax regulations.
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Ability to work under deadlines during tax season.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred

Experience with business tax returns.
Experience with QuickBooks.
Experience with Drake
Enrolled Agent (EA), CPA, or working toward certification

Responsibilities

Prepare individual (Form 1040) tax returns.

Prepare business tax returns (1120, 1120S, 1065, and other business entities as experience allows).

Review financial records and supporting documentation.

Communicate with clients regarding missing documents and tax questions.

Ensure returns are accurate, complete, and compliant with current tax laws.
Electronically file tax returns.
Maintain confidential client information.
Organize digital tax files according to firm procedures.
Assist with tax planning opportunities for clients.
Respond to IRS and state correspondence when necessary.
Stay current on tax law changes.
Assist bookkeeping staff during non-tax season as needed.
