Full Job Description

Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Brick Mason to join our construction team. This role is responsible for building, repairing, and maintaining various structures using brick, stone, and concrete blocks. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of masonry techniques, a high degree of mathematical precision, and the ability to interpret technical drawings to produce high-quality, durable work.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Execution & Craftsmanship

Installation: Expertly lay brick, stone, and block on mortar beds to construct walls, fences, walkways, and other structures.
Custom Shaping: Cut, saw, and shape masonry materials to specific dimensions for custom fits around architectural features like windows and doors.
Material Preparation: Mix cement and mortar in precise proportions to ensure structural integrity and aesthetic consistency.
Surface Preparation: Examine and prepare surfaces/layouts before beginning work to ensure a level and secure foundation.

Planning & Interpretation

Technical Analysis: Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to understand structural requirements.
Site Layout: Analyze area dimensions (width and length) to develop design plans and layout the job site effectively.
Mathematical Precision: Apply advanced proportions and measurements to ensure all masonry work is plumb, level, and square.

Safety & Site Management

Safety Compliance: Adhere to all masonry safety protocols, including the consistent use of PPE (hard hats, safety glasses).
Leadership Support: Direct and assist laborers on daily tasks and mentor apprentices to ensure project quality and growth.
Site Integrity: Maintain a clean work environment, ensuring all tools are properly stored and safety hazards are reported or corrected immediately.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: Proven experience in masonry with a strong portfolio of brick and block projects.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in using masonry tools (saws, trowels, levels) and reading complex blueprints.
Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy materials and standing for long periods in varying weather conditions.
Soft Skills: Strong reasoning and interpersonal skills; ability to take a leadership role in the absence of a supervisor.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or completion of a masonry apprenticeship preferred.
