New York City Muslim Center (NYCMC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and home to the largest Islamic Center in New York City. Our 60,000 sq. ft. facility impacts over 2,000 people weekly and houses key institutions including:

The Opportunity
We are looking for exceptional Middle School Teachers across all core subject areas, including English Language Arts, mathematics, science, social studies, technology, and related disciplines.
A strong middle school teacher does more than deliver lessons.
You will help students transition from elementary learning into more rigorous, independent, and discipline-specific work.
You will teach students how to organize their thinking.
Read and write with greater depth.
Respond to feedback.
And develop the confidence to take academic risks.
Depending on your expertise and the school’s instructional schedule, you may teach one primary subject or a combination of related middle school courses.
You will be responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction while creating a classroom culture rooted in consistency, curiosity, responsibility, respect, and strong Islamic character.
What You’ll Do
1. Deliver Rigorous Middle School Instruction
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons in your assigned subject area
- Establish clear learning objectives and maintain strong instructional pacing
- Explain challenging concepts in developmentally appropriate ways without lowering academic expectations
- Balance direct instruction, guided practice, discussion, collaboration, and independent work
- Connect current learning to prior knowledge and future high school expectations
- Maintain organized lesson plans, instructional materials, assignments, and course records
2. Build Foundational Academic Skills
- Strengthen students’ reading, writing, reasoning, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Teach students how to organize materials, manage assignments, study effectively, and meet deadlines
- Develop students’ ability to explain their thinking rather than simply provide answers
- Require students to support their ideas with evidence, examples, calculations, or logical reasoning
- Help students identify mistakes, respond to feedback, and revise their work
- Prepare students for the independence and rigor expected in high school
3. Use Assessment to Strengthen Learning
- Develop and administer quizzes, examinations, projects, presentations, written assignments, and performance tasks
- Use formative assessments to identify misconceptions and unfinished learning
- Analyze student work to determine what must be reinforced or retaught
- Provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback
- Maintain accurate grades and communicate academic progress clearly
- Use assessment data to create intervention and enrichment plans
4. Differentiate and Support Student Growth
- Differentiate instruction for students with varying levels of academic readiness
- Provide appropriate scaffolding without creating long-term dependence
- Create enrichment opportunities for students prepared for more advanced work
- Coordinate with school leadership and student-support personnel when intervention is required
- Provide tutoring, review sessions, office hours, or targeted academic support when assigned
- Support multilingual learners and students with different learning needs
5. Build a Focused and Respectful Classroom
- Establish predictable routines that protect instructional time
- Maintain high expectations for preparation, participation, conduct, and academic integrity
- Respond consistently to incomplete work, disengagement, disrespect, and disruptive behavior
- Help students learn how to disagree respectfully and participate productively
- Build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries and accountability
- Teach students to take responsibility for their choices, materials, assignments, and shared spaces
6. Contribute to the Wellspring School Model
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, planning sessions, and school-wide initiatives
- Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen curriculum alignment and instructional consistency
- Communicate professionally and proactively with students, parents, and school leadership
- Participate in arrival, dismissal, lunch, hallway, testing, and other student-supervision responsibilities
- Support the Islamic values, expectations, and culture of NYCMC Wellspring Schools
- Model professionalism, integrity, kindness, responsibility, urgency, and continuous improvement

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Technology, or a closely related field
- At least three years in a lead KG-12th Grade lead teaching role
- New York State teaching certification or eligibility for certification
- Strong command of the content required for the assigned middle school courses
- Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or supporting middle school-aged students
- Ability to plan and deliver organized, standards-aligned instruction
- Strong classroom-management and student-engagement skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction for students with different academic needs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to use assessment data to guide instructional decisions
- Proficiency with educational technology and digital learning platforms
- Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, administrators, students, and families
- Alignment with Islamic values and the culture of NYCMC Wellspring Schools
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience teaching grades 6–8
- Experience teaching in a private, charter, religious, or college-preparatory school
- Experience preparing students for New York State assessments
- Experience with project-based, inquiry-based, or interdisciplinary learning
- Experience supporting multilingual learners and students with different academic needs
- Experience using student-performance data to develop intervention and enrichment plans
- Ability to teach more than one related middle school subject
