Full Job Description

JOB

The Puyallup Municipal Court is accepting applications for its Probation Assistant position. This is a regularly budgeted, 35 hour per week position. This posting will close on July 6th at 5pm.

The successful candidate will perform a variety of basic general office and clerical tasks in support of the Probation Officer and the Court. Tasks follow well defined procedures which are highly routine. Attention to work is required to prevent errors. This position has contact with the public and other City employees. Work is performed in an office setting.

The City of Puyallup is a community of 43,000 and is situated at the foot of scenic Mount Rainier. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Operates a personal computer using Microsoft Office;
Provides support to the Probation Officer and Court to include document processing and client assistance;
Efficient in all facets of basic clerical skills including answering phones, filing, and operating computer data entry programs such as the court’s case management system (Judicial Information System) and probation file management system (Lawbase);
Assists the probation department with intake paperwork, including entering new probation referrals and maintaining data in Lawbase;
Monitors compliance of treatment obligations with providers; timely entering reports into the court record and notifying appropriate individuals of a report of non-compliance;
Installs, monitors and maintains the court’s SCRAM devices, and refers non-compliance to the Court;
Monitors communication and compliance reports from other agencies for pre-trial release conditions or sentencing alternatives such as home detention and alcohol monitoring services;
Completes applications for Interstate Compact Offender Tracking System (ICOTS);
Responsible for probation office efficiencies by ensuring adequate supplies for UAs and may facilitate UA collection in the absence of the Probation Officer;
Supports Probation Officer in providing in-house Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) classes, including scheduling classes and providing class materials; and
Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Constant Demands: Sitting, talking, seeing, hearing. Frequent Demands: Standing, walking, kneeling/squatting, repetitive hand motion, handling/grasping objects, bending at the waist. Occasional Demands: Driving, lifting, carrying, climbing, pushing/pulling, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights/balancing, lifting an average of 15 pounds; maximum of 30 pounds, twisting at the waist, crawling, reaching below the knees - knees to shoulder - above the shoulder, crouching, repetitive arm motion, and foot controls. Environmental Factors: Low noise level with 100 percent of employee’s time spent indoors in an office environment.

SELECTION PROCESS
Those applicants whose qualifications most closely correspond to the City's current needs will be contacted for interviews and/or testing. The appointing authority may conduct second interviews.
Notification – Following submission of application, an email acknowledgment receipt of application is given. Persons selected for an interview and/or testing will be notified by email, normally within 15 working days following the closing date on the job announcement.
Not Selected – No formal notification is usually sent by the City to applicants not selected for an interview or test. Should the same or another position open for which the applicant wishes to apply, he/she must apply online for each new opening.

Hours of Work – 35 hours per week, with the schedule being finalized by the Court Administrator.
FLSA Status – This is a FLSA non-exempt position.
Union Affiliation – This is an American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) bargaining unit position.
