Full Job Description

The Project Accountant (Direct-Hire) serves as the connection between our client's project management teams and their accounting department, focused on construction accounting functions: accrual calculations, reconciliations, and project financial analysis — while ensuring PMs and accounting stay aligned on project performance, process expectations, and financial compliance.

Project managers retain ownership of their project budgets and financial outcomes; the Project Accountant brings the accounting depth to support, analyze, and validate those numbers accurately.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage all financial transactions related to construction projects, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
Perform detailed cost analysis and cost accounting to monitor project budgets and control expenses effectively.
Prepare and interpret financial reports, including cash flow analyses, balance sheets, and income statements tailored for construction projects.
Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) regulations across all financial processes.
Utilize ERP systems such as SAP, Sage, Xero, or similar software to streamline data collection, account reconciliation, and financial reporting.
Conduct budget forecasting and financial analysis to support project planning and decision-making.
Reconcile accounts such as payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and general ledger accounts regularly to maintain accurate records.
Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to interpret financial data, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
Assist in internal audits and support external auditors during financial reviews related to construction activities.

REQUIREMENTS

Proven experience in accounting within the manufacturing or construction industry with a strong understanding of cost management and financial analysis.
Proficiency in accounting software such as SAP, QuickBooks, Quicken, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms.
Strong knowledge of GAAP standards, double-entry bookkeeping, and technical accounting concepts relevant to construction projects.
MUST currently be local to Greater Phoenix Area and work 100% in Biltmore HQ (work/life balance is very important to this org so flex will be afforded as life happens, but no set WFH schedule)
