Brief Job Description:

CPS Volunteer Services Coordinator III- This position serves as the Community Coordinator for Tarrant County and is responsible for organizing local community initiatives to support the Tarrant County Child Protective Services program for the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services. Work involves organizing and implementing several major projects each year, and overseeing, coordinating, and promoting a volunteer services program to assist with these projects. This position provides public awareness about child abuse and neglect and develops relationships with community boards and partners. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions:

Plans, develops, and provides support for community projects and programs that support the agency
Assists in preparing budgets and monitoring expenditures for volunteer programs
Coordinates the recruitment, selection and training of volunteers
Prepares program reports and other documentation as requested by the Tarrant County CPS Board and Community Partners of Tarrant County
Provides training, leadership, public awareness and education for staff and local community organizations
Solicits contributions for funding projects and ensures that contributions and donations are properly handled and acknowledged
Represents the agency to local Tarrant County community groups
Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:

This position requires use of the applicant's personal vehicle at times to complete job functions.

Applicants for positions must have a reliable vehicle and a current, valid Texas driver's license appropriate for the vehicle and passenger or cargo load. Applicants must provide proof of insurance and license.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of Child Protective Services (CPS) programs, policies, procedures, organizational operations, and client service needs
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws relating to CPS
Knowledge of community resources and law enforcement contacts
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with agency staff at all levels and with the external community
Skill in effective written and verbal communications including public speaking
Skill in personal computer use and applicable software such as Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to originate ideas and strategies for communicating the agency message
Ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds and professions
Ability to develop materials and documents for distribution internally and externally in a professional manner
Ability to provide information, training and support to agency staff and external entities
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively
Ability to perform a wide variety of job-related tasks and work independently
Ability to use sound judgment when assessing job duties, complaints from the community, and assignment of special projects
Ability to organize and prioritize job assignments
Ability to travel locally within Tarrant County
Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed, especially during the month of December
Ability to lift and move boxes of donations and supplies as needed. The incumbent typically performs work that requires him/her to exert up to 20 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Initial Screening Criteria:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university

Previous experience in coordinating community events involving volunteer services and fundraising efforts OR previous experience working for Child Protective Services or a related child welfare agency.
