Full Job Description

Junior Attorney – Consumer Debt Collection Litigation

Law Offices of Keith Wier, PLLC is seeking a motivated Junior Attorney to join our consumer debt collection litigation practice. This position is well suited for a recently licensed attorney or an attorney in the early stages of practice who wants substantial hands-on litigation experience.

The Junior Attorney will work directly with experienced counsel and will be involved in the full litigation lifecycle, including reviewing accounts for suit, preparing pleadings, reviewing legal filings, attending court appearances, and evaluating consumer communications and disputes.

Responsibilities include:

Draft and review complaints, motions, affidavits, proposed judgments, discovery, settlement documents, and other litigation pleadings.
Review consumer debt collection files for litigation readiness and sufficiency of documentation.
Review contracts, account statements, payment histories, assignments, affidavits, and supporting business records.
Attend court hearings, status conferences, default judgment hearings, and other scheduled court appearances.
Assist with preparation for trials, hearings, and post-judgment proceedings.
Review correspondence and communications received from consumers and consumer attorneys.
Evaluate consumer disputes, defenses, settlement proposals, and other account-related communications.
Communicate with consumers and opposing counsel when legally appropriate.
Review collection communications for compliance with applicable federal and state consumer-protection laws.
Work with collection and litigation staff to ensure files are properly documented before legal action is initiated.
Monitor litigation deadlines, hearing dates, service status, and court requirements.
Conduct legal research concerning debt collection, contracts, civil procedure, consumer law, and related litigation issues.
Assist senior attorneys with litigation strategy and case management.
Maintain accurate notes and documentation concerning all material case activity.

Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Active and good-standing license to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction.
Newly licensed attorneys and attorneys with limited litigation experience are encouraged to apply.
Strong legal research and writing skills.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to review financial and contractual documentation.
Ability to manage multiple cases and litigation deadlines.
Professional written and verbal communication skills.
Courtroom experience is preferred but not required.
Experience involving creditors’ rights, consumer finance, debt collection, civil litigation, or financial services is a plus.

Preferred Experience:

Experience or familiarity with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Regulation F, Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), state debt collection statutes, creditors’ rights, breach-of-contract litigation, default judgments, post-judgment discovery, and collection litigation is beneficial but not required.
