Terms of Employment:

Pay Grade: E25 Salary Range * $132,772 - $187,445

Salary is determined on directly related experience supported by a service record or experience affidavit. For

more information on our pay policy, please refer to the Compensation Resource Manual. Annualized pay may
be pro-rated based on actual start date.

Job Scope

Oversees daily operations of multiple departments or campuses within a specific segment of the district. Develops
long- and short-term strategies and oversees implementation of them. Responsible for implementing cost saving
procedures while increasing performance using multiple inputs and measuring outputs. Will adhere to the
execution of district-wide policies, procedures, and programs. Manages multiple development and planning
matters within scope of direction.

Position Summary

The Chief Academic Officer (COA) oversees the curriculum and instruction, assessment, professional learning, and
all educational services and monitors the daily operations of the program and provides leadership and direction
through Senior Management in the planning, implementing, and establishing goals for the department. Adapts and
executes departmental plans and contributes to the development of department strategies.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

1. Diagnose instructional needs and recommend instructional programs and materials to address identified
needs.

2. Provides leadership to all personnel in Academic Services to ensure that all departments are coordinating
efforts to provide efficient and effective delivery of educational services.

3. Collaborate with the Instructional Superintendents to ensure the implementation of high-quality
instructional materials

4. Collaborates with others in the development, implementation, and monitoring of district and campus
short and long-range instructional goals to improve instructional outcomes as measured by the state and
national standards

5. Align content processes and product outcomes for K-12 curriculum and instruction programs with
national and state standards.

6. Design and implement a long-range strategic plan for effective PK-12 programs.
7. Advocates, facilitates, and monitors the planning, implementation, and assessment of professional

learning for instructional staff.

8. In collaboration with school principals, leadership, and instructional staff, develop campus curriculum and
instruction programs.

9. Develop, review, and approve curriculum and instruction department operating policies/procedures and
state board rules related to instruction.

10. Identify, analyze, and apply research and best practices that support instructional programs at all grade
levels.

11. Monitor the quality and implementation of all curriculum and instruction programs and recommend
adjustments as needed.

12. Provide budget oversight for curriculum and instruction program(s).
13. Provides oversight for Early Childhood, Federal and State Programs, and professional learning
14. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities

expected for this position.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or 4 years' equivalent experience and

3+ years of professional experience in education or curriculum and instruction.

Progressive leadership experience to include:

o Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, and Managing employees or teams.
o Coaching, Mentoring, Developing, and Performance Managing employees or teams.

Valid Texas Teacher Certification

Valid Texas Mid-management, administrator, or principal certification.

Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee

(approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

Preferred Requirements

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

10+ years’ progressive experience in education or curriculum and instruction.

6+ years of progressive leadership experience to include:

o Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, and Managing employees or teams.
o Coaching, Mentoring, Developing, and Performance Managing employees or teams.

3+ years in a Central Office Position

Strong curriculum, curriculum alignment, curriculum standards and assessment and program

management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated leadership skills

Knowledge of curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation K-12

Ability to evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness

Ability to evaluate and modify instructional program and teacher effectiveness based on data analysis and

interpretation

Ability to manage budget and personnel

Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners

Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to problem solve, think critically, and manage conflict

Working Conditions

Work Environment:

Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and

equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.

Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional

exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.

Physical Demands/Requirements:

Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines; frequent sitting,

standing, walking, climbing, balancing, pulling and pushing; reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing,
speaking clearly, visual acuity and prolonged data input; occasional lift/carry light, moderate 15-44 pounds.
