Job Title: Child Nutrition Specialist Exemption Status/Test: Exempt/Professional

Reports to: Coordinator of Child Nutrition Services Pay Grade: $67,366 - $74,400

Department: Business Services Status: Full time

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree in Institutional Management, Food Service, Business, Nutrition, Family and Consumer
Science, Public Health, Education, or related field (two years of work experience related to the essential duties and responsibilities may substitute for 1 year education)

QUALIFICATIONS: Three years of experience in management of school or institutional food service operations, preferred o Prior experience as a Child Nutrition Director, preferred o Three years experience in teaching individual and group sessions to adults, preferred o Up to 50% travel required, including out-of-town and other ESC regions o Skills in public and human relations and ability to plan, coordinate, and implement programs.

TDA SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: a. Coordinate and sponsor regional trainings in all areas of program operations for
Child Nutrition Program Staff b. Provide training and technical assistance to Contracting Entities (CEs) as described in the Statement of Work – Exhibit A c. Collaborate with other ESC regions to ensure equitable availability of training specialists across the state for all training events d. Collaborate with other regions to facilitate the development and implementation of statewide training e. Train on Administrative Reviews for all ESC Specialists/Review training schedule to include ESC/TDA AR Review f. Attend required state staff meetings scheduled by TDA g. Attend and participate in special committees and workgroups as directed by

TDA h. Maintain program budgets, reporting information, and CE files according to

TDA guidelines i. Travel to CEs for in-person visits weekly j. Perform additional duties as assigned by TDA

ESC RESPONSIBILITIES:

In this capacity, the child nutrition specialist will be to provide leadership, staff training, and technical assistance for Region 18 contracting entities by supporting compliance efforts and individually assessed needs in child nutrition services. In this capacity, the child nutrition specialist shall be responsible to the Coordinator of Child Nutrition Services and the Deputy Director of Financial Services/CFO. The Child Nutrition Specialist
Shall:

a. Plan, develop, conduct, and/or facilitate staff development activities for introducing and demonstrating innovative instructional techniques and methods. b. Collaboratively plan, develop, and/or facilitate long-range instructional staff development programs for ESC (Education Service Center) and LEAs (Local
Education Agencies). c. Actively participate as a member of the ESC/LEA Team and within the appropriate Professional Learning Community (PLC). d. Assist with compiling, analyzing, and/or interpreting data, such as student performance in relation to state standards and program evaluation, to attain program excellence. e. Secure the aid of resource persons and consultants to supplement and enrich programs of local schools. f. Assist with the development of procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of service center programs and recommend modifications as needed to attain ESC goals. g. Keep abreast of current instructional practices and techniques, professional literature, and state and federal regulations related to job responsibilities. h. Acquire, develop, and demonstrate new skills by participating in professional i. Maintain open communication and confidentiality in accordance with the Texas

Professional Standards of Ethics. j. Assist LEAs with enriching and improving student performance, effectively using elements of the planning process which include assessment, goal setting, objective development, resources, identification, timeline establishment, and evaluation design. k. Exhibit a professional demeanor when communicating with clients. l. Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Coordinator of Child Nutrition

Services or the Deputy Director of Financial Services/CFO.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:
a. Ability to comprehend both verbal and written complex directives, guidance, and instructions b. Ability to communicate complex information to diverse groups c. Ability to adapt well to changing priorities and direction d. Skill to manage conflict well e. Skill in project management

f. Skill in time management g. Knowledge of federal nutrition programs h. Knowledge of current research into effective practices and current trends in

Child Nutrition Programs. i. Knowledge of menu planning and quantity food production j. Knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points-Based Food Safety Plan k. Ability to meet needs of adult learners l. Ability to work one-one with Child Nutrition Directors of various experiences m. Ability to objectively evaluate data and provided pertinent feedback n. Ability to use any formal training to enhance job performance and /or personal development o. Ability to demonstrate effective training skills in differentiation strategies
