Full Job Description

Job Overview

A&W Energy is seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical CAD Designer to support product development, manufacturing, repair, and operational improvement projects. This role will create and revise 2D drawings, 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation for oilfield equipment and industrial components. The ideal candidate will be proficient in SolidWorks, comfortable working with engineers and shop personnel, and capable of turning sketches, measurements, sample parts, and design concepts into accurate, manufacturable drawing packages.

Key Responsibilities

· Create, modify, and maintain 2D CAD drawings, 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawing packages.

· Support design and documentation for oilfield equipment and industrial components, including power ends, fluid ends, manifolds, valves, seats, frac iron, fixtures, tooling, and shop improvement projects.

· Interpret engineering sketches, calculations, specifications, redlines, field measurements, and sample parts.

· Prepare detailed fabrication, machining, weldment, and assembly drawings for internal and external manufacturing use.

· Apply proper dimensions, tolerances, fits, and basic GD&T to drawings where required.

· Assist with reverse engineering by measuring existing components and converting rough concepts into accurate CAD models and drawings.

· Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, QC, procurement, supervisors, and shop personnel to resolve design and manufacturability issues.

· Maintain organized CAD files, drawing numbers, revision history, and document control procedures.

· Assist with bills of materials, part numbering, and purchasing support for manufactured or outsourced components.

· Conduct quality checks on completed drawings for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability.

· Support prototype development, product improvements, and design revisions based on shop feedback, testing results, and customer requirements.

· Work in a fast-paced environment while supporting project timelines, urgent drawing needs, and multiple active priorities.

Qualifications

· Associate degree or technical certification in CAD Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.

· 2+ years of CAD drafting/design experience preferred; manufacturing or mechanical design experience strongly preferred.

· Proficiency with SolidWorks required or strongly preferred; AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar mechanical CAD platforms are a plus.

· Strong understanding of mechanical drafting standards, blueprint reading, dimensions, tolerances, and drawing organization.

· Ability to create drawings for machined, welded, fabricated, and assembled components.

· Ability to work from sketches, redlines, verbal direction, shop measurements, and sample parts.

· Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple drawing revisions.

· Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering, operations, procurement, and shop teams.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills

· Experience in oilfield, manufacturing, machining, fabrication, industrial repair, or heavy equipment environments.

· Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, fits, machined surfaces, weld symbols, and fabrication practices.

· Experience with reverse engineering, field measurements, prototype development, and design-for-manufacturing support.

· Familiarity with ERP systems, BOM creation, part numbering, and document management systems.

· Experience with 3D rendering, exploded views, technical illustrations, or customer-facing product documentation.

· Comfortable using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other basic measuring tools.

Work Environment

· Office and industrial shop environment.

· Must be comfortable working around manufacturing, repair, welding, machining, testing, lifting equipment, and heavy oilfield components.

· May require occasional shop, yard, or field measurements.

· Often works under deadlines and may support urgent operational or customer-driven design needs.

· Personal protective equipment may be required in shop or field areas.
