Full Job Description

Position Summary

We are looking for a Diesel / Trailer Mechanic with strong hands-on experience in preventive maintenance, suspension work, brakes, wheel-end inspections, and basic tractor, trailer, and reefer maintenance support.

This position is focused on keeping fleet equipment moving through the shop efficiently by performing inspections, preventive maintenance services, suspension repairs, basic troubleshooting, and follow-up repairs on tractors, trailers, and reefer units. The ideal candidate must be dependable, organized, safety-minded, and able to work with minimal supervision on assigned tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance services on tractors, trailers, and reefer units.

Inspect and repair suspension components, including bushings, shocks, hangers, torque arms, air bags, leveling valves, and related hardware.

Inspect and service brake systems, wheel ends, lights, air lines, mud flaps, tires, landing gear, doors, and basic trailer components.

Assist with reefer preventive maintenance, including visual inspections, battery checks, belts, filters, fluids, basic electrical checks, and reporting active alarms or abnormal conditions.

Perform basic tractor maintenance, including oil services, grease, filters, fluid checks, belts, hoses, air leaks, lights, and general mechanical inspections.

Identify worn, damaged, unsafe, or missing parts and report findings to the supervisor.

Complete assigned repairs according to shop priorities.

Maintain basic repair notes and communicate work performed, parts needed, and pending issues.

Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.

Follow company safety procedures and shop standards.

Required Qualifications

Previous experience working on diesel trucks, trailers, or fleet equipment.

Strong mechanical experience with suspension, brakes, PM services, and general maintenance.

Ability to use hand tools, impact tools, jacks, stands, grease equipment, and basic shop tools safely.

Ability to inspect equipment and identify unsafe or worn components.

Basic understanding of air brake systems, trailer electrical systems, and preventive maintenance procedures.

Reliable attendance and ability to follow work priorities.

Ability to work in a fast-paced fleet maintenance environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with reefer trailers.

Experience with DOT-style inspections.

Experience with Freightliner, International, Utility, Great Dane, Wabash, Carrier, or Thermo King equipment

Basic welding or fabrication experience is a plus, but not required.
