Full Job Description

The Assistant Vice President, Community Impact (Economic Mobility) will provide leadership in support of United Way’s community impact work, creating opportunities for our community to prosper through integration of financial stability, workforce development, navigation support, regional community builders, centers, and place-based strategies. The incumbent will work collaboratively across the entire UWGH organization, coordinating and supporting high-level volunteers, which involves building relationships with public and private-sector institutions, nonprofit organizations, and community partners. The incumbent's responsibilities will include: (1) leading and developing strategies that accelerate United Way’s economic mobility/financial stability goals, (2) supporting long-term scalable impact for current and future efforts of the department, and (3) working within a matrix structure to implement cross-cutting practices and strategies that accelerate impact in our community.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy Development: Provides strategic leadership and oversight of United Way’s economic mobility and financial stability initiatives. Oversees the operation, marketing, evaluation, strategic planning for the program forecasting future growth and development to maintain a high standard of quality and performance using data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
Cross-functional Engagement: Leads and serves as a United Way ambassador on cross-sector committees internally and externally to implement initiatives that navigate complex systems, co-design cross-sector solutions and drive implementation and impact. Builds lasting constructive and mutually beneficial relationships that advance our mission and impact. As part of a matrix structure, works collaboratively with cross-functional taskforces and committees.
Program Management and Oversight: Leads the development of a high-performing, integrated team by setting clear goals, expectations, and accountability structures while providing the support needed to drive success. Coaches and develops managers, and regularly guides, evaluates, and strengthens staff performance through consistent feedback and metrics. Fosters a strengths-based culture with open communication that empowers staff to maximize productivity, creativity, and operational results.
Community Engagement: Develops community outreach strategies that promote United Way’s work and maximizes integration of our programs and initiatives through a regional approach. Develops partnerships and collaborations that increase awareness, visibility and utilization of programs.
Other: Handles other responsibilities as assigned such as fundraising support to meet advancement goals, special projects and organizational activities related to integrating division activity with the United Way strategic plan.

EDUCATION:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in social work, human services, public administration, or other similar field, and 10 years of relevant professional experience are required.

EXPERIENCE:

Ten (10) or more years of experience in social service planning, management, and/or evaluation, including supervision.
Successful track record of leading, developing, and executing large-scale, high-impact strategies and initiatives.
Proven ability to build and develop relationships with a broad constituency base, including executive levels in government, business, industry, foundation management, service providers, and other key community leaders and volunteers.
Demonstrates strong strategic thinking, a growth mindset, problem-solving skills, and change management experience.
Effectively manages multiple workstreams, with the ability to thoughtfully plan, execute, and adapt to changing priorities to achieve goals and objectives.
Exceptional emotional intelligence and self-awareness, with a proven ability to build strong, trust-based relationships at an executive level that build influence, collaboration, and meaningful impact.
Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate, supervise and lead professional and administrative staff.
Experience with overseeing budgets, aligning resources to strategy and ensuring responsible fiscal management.
Demonstrated ability to work with and gain the respect of a broad constituency base, including executive levels in government, business, industry, foundation management, service providers and other key community leaders and volunteers.
Understands the non-profit culture and can work collaboratively across the organization, earning the respect of a diverse team of peers and staff.
Strong communicator, both written and oral, with a high level of integrity in managing confidential information.
