Full Job Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced, independent Medical Billing Specialist to support our small healthcare business with multiple locations. The ideal candidate will possess expertise with both insurance and private pay patients.

Responsibilities:

Manage the full medical billing cycle for residential mental health and behavioral health services, including claim submission, payment posting, denials, corrections, and follow-up.
Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, coverage limitations, deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and authorization requirements prior to and during treatment.
Prepare and submit accurate claims to commercial insurance plans and other applicable payers, ensuring services are billed correctly and in a timely manner.
Monitor outstanding insurance claims and accounts receivable, follow up on unpaid or underpaid claims, and work directly with insurance companies to resolve billing issues.
Investigate and resolve claim denials, rejected claims, eligibility issues, authorization problems, coding/billing discrepancies, and other payment delays.
Accurately post insurance payments, adjustments, patient payments, refunds, and other account activity while maintaining detailed and organized patient account records.
Manage private-pay accounts, including invoicing, payment tracking, outstanding balances, payment arrangements, and follow-up on past-due accounts.
Track and reconcile payments that are issued directly to patients or responsible parties by insurance companies, including identifying when these payments should have been applied toward the patient's outstanding balance.
Conduct persistent but professional follow-up with patients and responsible parties regarding insurance payments received directly by the patient, unpaid balances, and other amounts owed to the organization.
Research and document difficult-to-collect accounts, including reviewing explanation of benefits (EOBs), remittance information, patient ledgers, contracts, and payment histories to determine the appropriate balance due.
Work closely with admissions, clinical, utilization review, insurance verification, accounting, and administrative teams to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure accurate account reconciliation.
Maintain accurate documentation and confidentiality of all billing and patient financial information while following applicable healthcare billing requirements, payer guidelines, and company policies.

The right applicant will be experienced & able to help us bring our billing in house. Will need to work in concert with the Admissions Team and The Clinical Team. Candidate will help us maintain our very positive track record of applying for and being granted extensions.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $33.00 - $38.00 per hour
