Full Job Description

About the Position

The Borough of Shrewsbury Department of Public Works is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join its team as a Public Works Laborer. Under the direction of the Public Works Director and supervisory staff, the successful candidate will perform a variety of maintenance, repair, construction, and equipment operation duties necessary to support Borough operations and maintain public infrastructure, facilities, parks, roadways, and grounds.

This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with overtime, weekend work, and emergency call-outs required as needed. Starting salary is $43,506 during the six-month probationary period, increasing to $47,489 upon successful completion of probation, plus comprehensive health benefits, NJ PERS pension enrollment, paid vacation, personal leave, sick leave, holidays, and overtime opportunities. Applicants must be able to perform physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions and respond to emergencies outside normal working hours.

Responsibilities

Maintain Borough roadways, parks, buildings, and public facilities
Perform roadway repairs, drainage maintenance, and stormwater system upkeep
Conduct mowing, trimming, landscaping, leaf collection, brush removal, and grounds maintenance
Assist with painting, construction, facility repairs, and public improvement projects
Operate trucks, mowers, tractors, loaders, snowplows, and other Borough equipment
Perform routine inspections, cleaning, and maintenance of Borough vehicles and equipment
Install and maintain signs, traffic control devices, and other public property improvements
Respond to weather emergencies, snow and ice events, flooding, and other situations
Follow all safety procedures and Borough policies
Perform other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director or Foreman

Qualifications

High school dipoma or equivalent required
Valid New Jersey driver's license required
CDL Class B license required
Prior experience in public works, construction, landscaping, equipment operation, or a related field preferred
Ability to perform strenuous physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team
