Full Job Description

Job Summary

The Accounting Manager maintains and updates the accounting records, reviews and reports financials to Finance Committee and conducts analyses as needed for the organization, which includes the ReStore.

Responsibilities

Oversee selection of the audit firm to conduct an independent audit of the organization’s financial statements annually, including the 990, reviewing and approving the audit scope and fees, and addressing the management letter and auditor’s comments. Prepare files for auditor and address questions. Present findings to the Finance Committee.
Provide Finance Committee a monthly report that includes a review of the true balance sheet (statement of the assets, liabilities and fund balance), and true statements of the activity (revenue, expenses, and changes in fund balance), functional expenses, and cash flow for such fiscal year, to be summarized into the Scorecard including appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and submitted to the Finance Committee. Make recommendations for improving reporting as needed.
Oversee Corporation’s checking, savings, and escrow accounts for the affiliate and ReStore at respective banking institutions.
Ensure financial safeguards and policies are in place to assure donors that their donations are appropriately managed. Initiate investigations into any matter brought forth, with the power to retain outside counsel for this purpose if, in its judgement, that is appropriate. The Finance Committee will promptly report any such actions to the Board.
Oversee the systems of internal controls, including overseeing compliance by staff with applicable policies and procedures and risk management.
Ensure affiliate is sending HFHI monthly tithe (part of Good Standing requirement).
Banking: Post and deliver deposits to the bank, ensuring accounts are adequately funded (order checks and deposit slips as needed).
Accounts payable: Enter approved invoices into Quickbooks and pay them, ensuring copies are stored appropriately. File 1099-Misc yearly.
Payroll: Process payroll every 2 weeks. File Federal and State withholding reports and Federal quarterly tax return via QuickBooks. File 1099’s yearly.
Receive and record mortgage payments as well as conducts escrow analysis annually.
Initiate annual budget and work with Executive Director and Finance Committee to finalize it.
Other tasks as assigned by Executive Director.

Requirements

An Associate’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
At least 5 years of experience in Accounting
Prior supervisiory experience in Accounting preferred
Knowledge of Quickbooks Online required
Excellent computer skills (eg. Microsoft Office, CRM)
Enthusiasm, teamwork focused, and strong customer service orientation
Well organized and detail oriented – able to execute action items identified in meetings
Self- motivated able to work independently
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Attend meetings, presentations, events outside of typical working hours, e.g. evenings, week-ends. Work hours can be flexed.
