THIS POSITION REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF TWO (2) YEARS OF CURRENT OPERATING ROOM CIRCULATING EXPERIENCE.
Applicants who have never worked as an Operating Room Circulator or who do not have at least two years of circulating experience will not be considered for this position. This is not a training or transition-to-the-OR role. We are seeking an experienced circulator who can confidently and independently function in the Operating Room from day one.
If you have worked in ICU, PACU, Med-Surg, Labor & Delivery, Emergency Medicine, or other nursing specialties but have never circulated in the OR, we respectfully ask that you do not apply.

Position Summary
The Operating Room Registered Nurse Circulator is responsible for providing safe, comprehensive perioperative nursing care throughout the surgical experience while adhering to AORN Standards and Recommended Practices, CMS Conditions for Coverage, ACHC Accreditation Standards, and all applicable State of Ohio regulations.
This position serves primarily as our OR closer and requires someone who is proactive, efficient, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.

Schedule
- PRN Position
- Approximately 3-4 shifts per month
- 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Additional opportunities may occasionally become available based upon staffing needs

Minimum Qualifications (REQUIRED)
Applicants must meet ALL of the following qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Ohio
- Minimum of two (2) years of Operating Room Circulating experience
- Current BLS Certification
- Current ACLS Certification
- Demonstrated knowledge of perioperative nursing practice
- Experience functioning independently as an OR Circulator
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment
Essential Responsibilities
The Operating Room Circulator will:
Patient Care Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive perioperative nursing assessments.
- Verify informed consent documentation.
- Complete patient identification and surgical site verification processes.
- Participate in and facilitate surgical time-outs according to established policies.
- Advocate for patient safety at all times.
- Provide emotional support and patient education throughout the perioperative experience.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
Operating Room Responsibilities
- Independently circulate plastic surgery procedures.
- Ensure all equipment, supplies, implants, medications, and instrumentation are available and functioning appropriately.
- Assist in maintaining efficient patient flow throughout the day.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and sterile surgical environment.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, scrub personnel, and administrative staff.
- Document all required intraoperative nursing documentation accurately and timely.
- Verify medication labeling and safe medication practices.
- Participate in specimen management and documentation processes.
- Maintain knowledge of emergency equipment and emergency response protocols.
- Participate in counts according to established policy and standards of practice.
- Monitor adherence to sterile technique throughout all procedures.
- Maintain patient positioning practices that prioritize safety and prevent injury.
Closing Responsibilities
As our designated closer, responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with room turnover and terminal cleaning processes.
- Ensuring all operating rooms are appropriately stocked and prepared for the following surgical day.
- Reviewing supplies and communicating inventory needs.
- Completing required logs and documentation.
- Assisting with sterilization processes as appropriate.
- Maintaining compliance with infection prevention practices.
- Participating in end-of-day safety checks.
- Supporting teammates to ensure the day's work is completed efficiently and thoroughly.
Regulatory Compliance
The RN Circulator will practice in accordance with:
- AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice
- CMS Conditions for Coverage for Ambulatory Surgery Centers
- ACHC Accreditation Standards
- State of Ohio Nursing Practice requirements
- OSHA standards
- Infection Prevention standards and policies
- Facility policies and procedures
Physical Requirements
The position requires the ability to:
- Stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Lift, push, pull, and move equipment and supplies.
- Assist in patient positioning and transfers.
- Bend, reach, and stoop frequently throughout the shift.
- Respond appropriately during emergency situations.
