Position Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and patient-focused Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) to join our pharmacy team in Phoenix, Arizona.
In this role, you will ensure accurate dispensing of medications, provide expert clinical guidance to patients, oversee pharmacy operations, and uphold high standards of pharmaceutical care in compliance with Arizona Board of Pharmacy and federal pharmacy regulations.
The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and patient-focused pharmacist with hands-on experience in pharmaceutical compounding, strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff.
Please note: This is an onsite position due to the nature of the work, including dispensing, patient counseling, medication verification, pharmaceutical compounding, and supervision of pharmacy operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff.
- Provide direction and oversight to pharmacy personnel.
- Ensure pharmacy staff follow applicable pharmacy procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Support effective pharmacy workflow and daily operations.
- Assist in training and supporting pharmacy personnel as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Accurately review, interpret, verify, and dispense prescription medications.
- Ensure compliance with Arizona Board of Pharmacy and applicable federal pharmacy regulations.
- Maintain accurate pharmacy records and manage inventory.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff.
- Provide expert clinical guidance to patients.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize medication therapy.
- Maintain accurate patient profiles and prescription information.
- Oversee and support compounding processes and procedures as Wells Pharmacy expands its compounding services.
- Ensure appropriate standards of quality, accuracy, and safety are followed during compounding activities.
- Support the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the pharmacy.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Compounding & Dispensing
- Accurately review, interpret, verify, and dispense prescription medications.
- Review prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, potential interactions, and other medication-related concerns.
- Perform medication verification prior to dispensing.
- Oversee compounding processes and ensure compounded medications are prepared accurately and in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.
- Perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately when required.
- Ensure prescriptions and compounded medications are prepared, labeled, and dispensed accurately and safely.
- Maintain accurate prescription and medication records.
- Support the development and implementation of compounding procedures as the pharmacy expands its compounding services.
Patient Care & Consultation
- Counsel patients on medication use, dosage, side effects, interactions, storage, and adherence.
- Provide professional and patient-focused clinical guidance.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers regarding prescriptions and medication therapy.
- Identify potential medication-related concerns and provide appropriate recommendations.
- Maintain accurate patient profiles and protect patient confidentiality.
- Provide appropriate guidance to patients regarding customized and compounded medications when applicable.
Operations & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Arizona Board of Pharmacy and applicable federal pharmacy regulations.
- Maintain accurate pharmacy records and documentation.
- Manage and maintain appropriate medication inventory.
- Support pharmacy policies and procedures related to medication safety and quality of care.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff.
- Maintain accurate information in pharmacy systems, including patient and prescription information.
- Support quality, safety, and compliance standards related to pharmacy and compounding operations.
- Collaborate with the pharmacy team to support efficient operations and high standards of patient care.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree or equivalent.
- Active Pharmacist license in Arizona (or eligible for licensure).
- Previous hands-on experience in pharmaceutical compounding.
- Strong clinical knowledge and pharmaceutical care skills.
- Strong understanding of medication safety and dispensing practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff.
Preferred
- Previous experience as a Pharmacist in Charge or in a pharmacy leadership role.
- Experience working directly with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Experience in a compounding pharmacy environment.
- Familiarity with customized medication services.
