Full Job Description

Job Overview

We are seeking a versatile and skilled Machinist to set up and operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, CNC waterjets, and manual machining equipment. In this cross-functional role, you will adapt to daily shop needs by producing precision metal and plastic components from complex blueprints using both manual and automated equipment.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties

CNC & Waterjet Operation

Set up and operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, and waterjet cutting systems based on shop scheduling.
Load program files, review G-code/M-code, enter tool offsets, and make on-the-fly program modifications.
Adjust feeds, speeds, coolant flows, and waterjet parameters (abrasive flow, pressure, kerf settings) tailored to specific materials.

Manual Machine Operation

Independently perform intermediate operations on manual mills and lathes, including boring, slotting, pocketing, and single-point lathe threading.
Set up and align workpieces using dial indicators, edge finders, 1-2-3 blocks, and steady rests.

Quality Control & Blueprint Reading

Read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, job travelers, and basic GD&T symbols to hold required tolerances.
Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using height gauges, dial indicators, depth micrometers, calipers, and optical tools; make machine adjustments as needed.

Tooling, Setup & Shop Safety

Select proper tooling and fixtures for specific materials and operations; execute intermediate fit-up and joint preparation.
Maintain clean equipment, complete daily preventative maintenance (clearing chips, changing waterjet consumables, checking fluids), and adhere strictly to all safety and PPE protocols.

Safety

Keep work area and machine clean to mitigate hazards.
Wear shop PPE and adhere to all shop rules and safety responsibilities

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: 1–5+ years operating CNC or manual mills and lathes ; prior CNC waterjet experience or strong willingness to learn.
Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of machining principles, material properties, feeds and speeds, coolant selection, and G-code/M-code.
Precision Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with precision measuring tools (height gauges, depth micrometers, dial indicators) and complex blueprint reading/GD&T.
Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, handle raw stock/sheet plate, and stand for extended periods.

Pay: $24.00 - $36.00 per hour
