Full Job Description

Position Overview

Job Title: Group Leader (Automotive Logistics)
Location: Shelby township-area (interviews conducted in-person in Allen Park, MI)
Reports To: Yard Manager

The company transports new vehicles from manufacturing plants to satellite storage lots. The Yard Leader supervises daily yard operations while also working alongside the team for much of the shift.

Schedule

Dayshift: starts between 7:00 AM–8:00 AM and end between 3:30–4:30 PM, scheduled 5 of 7 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

Service development; coordination with Yard Manager and Team Leaders to ensure service commitment and realization.

Group Leader will also have responsibility for Work Quality Standards, Loss and Damage Prevention., Claims, Document Control, Safety and handle personnel matters.

Group Leader will present damage prevention or process changes as required. They will attend customer meetings, phone conferences, understand customer requirements and meet or exceed their expectations. Group Leader will generate alternatives and make recommendations on improving area work process.

Group Leader will fill in for the Yard Manager as necessary and ensure all processes are documented and update as necessary.

1. Building and dispatching loads for transportation carriers

2. Creating and filing damage claims

3. Vehicle tracking, management of production vehicle builds

4. Inspection and arrival of inbound vehicles.

5. Managing a staff of 25 employees. Very fast paced environment.

Required Qualifications Experience

Team/Group Lead experience (required)
Automotive industry experience (preferred)
Experience working in production or logistics environments
Experience managing teams in a fast-paced setting
Excel/data-entry experience
Must provide a resume showing automotive supervisory experience
Experience with meeting valid external customer requirements, supervisory/managerial capabilities, process management, and PC skills.

Education

High school diploma or GED
College Degree (associates of bachelors)

Skills

Leadership and team management
Problem-solving and decision-making
Verbal and written communication
Intermediate computer skills
Ability to train and motivate employees

Driving Requirements

Applicants must:

Be 23–70 years old
Have at least 2 years of licensed U.S. driving experience
Have no major driving violations within the last 5 years

Disqualifying violations include:

DUI/OWI/DWI
Reckless driving
Hit-and-run
Racing
Driving with a suspended license
Felony involving a motor vehicle
Fleeing/eluding police
License suspension for points
Speeds exceeding 100 mph
Manslaughter/negligent homicide involving a vehicle

Physical Requirements

The role is highly active and requires:

Constant standing and walking
Frequent twisting and repetitive motion
Occasional kneeling, bending, squatting, crawling, climbing
Occasional lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs
Working outdoors and around moving vehicles/equipment
Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and fumes

Ideal Candidate

A strong candidate would have:

Automotive yard, logistics, dealership, manufacturing, or fleet experience
Previous supervisory or team lead experience
Good Excel and computer skills
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
Comfort working outdoors in a fast-paced vehicle environment
