Bar Manager — House of Nancy

Location: House of Nancy, 219 Central Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11221
Position: Bar Manager
Schedule: Full-time or near full-time; nights, weekends, and event availability required

House of Nancy is a new Bushwick bar, cafe, and performance venue focused on cocktails, coffee, drag, comedy, and community events. We are looking for a Bar Manager to help lead the bar program, support staff, maintain systems, and protect the guest experience as the venue opens and grows.

This role is for someone who can manage both the details and the room: cocktail execution, bar setup, ordering, inventory, staff training, cleanliness, service flow, and event-night operations. The ideal candidate has strong hospitality instincts, understands nightlife/event pacing, and can help build an LGBTQ+-affirming bar culture from the ground up.

Responsibilities

Lead daily bar setup, service, and closing standards.
Train bartenders and barbacks on specs, batching, service flow, POS, cleanliness, and responsible alcohol service.
Maintain cocktail specs, batch sheets, prep lists, pars, and order guides.
Manage liquor, beer, wine, NA, garnish, cup, and smallware inventory.
Place orders and communicate with vendors.
Monitor product quality, waste, breakage, comps, voids, and 86’d items.
Support bar staffing, scheduling, call times, and shift assignments.
Oversee event-night bar flow for drag shows, comedy shows, private events, and community programming.
Coordinate with ownership, managers, performers, door staff, and event staff.
Keep the bar compliant with cleanliness, labeling, storage, alcohol service, and safety standards.
Handle guest issues with professionalism and care.
Build a respectful, inclusive, LGBTQ+-affirming team culture.

Ideal Candidate

2+ years bartending experience required.
Prior lead bartender, bar manager, restaurant manager, nightlife manager, or event venue experience preferred.
Strong cocktail knowledge and ability to train others.
Comfortable with batched cocktails, high-volume service, beer, wine, and NA options.
Able to build systems: opening checklists, closing checklists, pars, ordering, prep, and station maps.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Comfortable working nights, weekends, drag performances, comedy shows, and busy event shifts.
Respectful of LGBTQ+ guests, performers, staff, chosen names, pronouns, and community standards.
Legally eligible to work in the U.S. and legally able to serve alcohol in New York.

Nice to Have

Alcohol awareness training / ATAP certification.
NYC Food Protection Certificate.
Experience opening a new bar, cafe, restaurant, theater, or event space.
Experience with queer nightlife, drag venues, comedy clubs, theaters, or performance spaces.
Vendor ordering and inventory experience.
POS programming or menu setup experience.

Pay: $25.00 per hour

License/Certification:
