Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Bookkeeper and Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic finance team. In this vital role, you will manage comprehensive bookkeeping functions, oversee payroll processing, and ensure accurate financial record-keeping in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Your expertise will support our organization’s financial health, compliance, and reporting needs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your accounting skills within a collaborative environment dedicated to excellence and integrity.

Duties

Maintain and update the general ledger using accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, or similar systems, ensuring all entries are accurate and timely.
Process payroll for all employees, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; handle tax filings and benefit deductions efficiently.
Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and other financial accounts regularly to ensure consistency across records.
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice entry, payment processing, and collections.
Prepare journal entries for month-end closing activities and assist with balance sheet reconciliation to verify the accuracy of financial statements.
Support governmental accounting requirements by maintaining detailed records for grants or non-profit funding sources when applicable.
Assist in budgeting processes by providing accurate financial data analysis and supporting documentation for decision-making.
Generate detailed financial reports and summaries to aid management in strategic planning and compliance audits.
Ensure adherence to accounting standards such as GAAP and maintain double-entry bookkeeping practices for all transactions.
Conduct account analysis and account reconciliation tasks to identify discrepancies or errors promptly.

Skills

Proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks (especially QuickBooks Online), Xero, Sage, and other financial systems.
Strong knowledge of corporate accounting principles, non-profit accounting standards, governmental accounting practices, and technical accounting concepts.
Experience with payroll processing, tax compliance, benefits deductions, and related reporting requirements.
Expertise in bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, journal entries, and general ledger management.
Advanced skills in spreadsheets (Excel), including formula creation, data analysis, and 10-key typing proficiency.
Familiarity with financial report writing, budget preparation, account analysis, and account reconciliation procedures.
Understanding of GAAP standards along with experience in public accounting or similar environments is highly desirable.
Ability to perform detailed account analysis using various accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online or Sage while maintaining accuracy under tight deadlines.
