Experienced Automotive Parts Counterperson – Full-Time – Monday through Friday, Alternating Saturdays

Join a fast-growing dealer group as an Automotive Parts Counterperson! Southtowne Mitsubishi in Sandy is looking for an experienced Automotive Parts Counterperson to join our team. Position Summary

The Automotive Parts Counterperson is responsible for providing excellent parts service to customers, technicians, and the Service Department. This position ensures the correct parts are identified, ordered, received, stocked, and distributed accurately and efficiently.

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced automotive dealership environment while maintaining a high level of customer service.

Essential Responsibilities

Assist retail customers, technicians, service advisors, and other dealership personnel with parts needs.
Identify and sell the correct parts using the vehicle VIN, parts catalogs, manufacturer systems, and other available resources.
Always verify the VIN before ordering or selling vehicle-specific parts.
Look up part numbers, availability, pricing, supersessions, and applications.
Prepare accurate parts estimates and quotes.
Order parts from manufacturers, distributors, and other suppliers.
Track special orders and notify customers and service personnel when parts arrive.
Receive incoming parts and verify quantities, part numbers, and condition against invoices.
Properly label, organize, and stock parts in designated locations.
Maintain accurate parts inventory and report discrepancies to management.
Assist technicians in locating and obtaining parts needed to complete repairs.
Communicate with Service Advisors regarding parts availability, backorders, pricing, and expected delivery times.
Monitor special-order parts and ensure they are properly documented and controlled.
Return incorrect, damaged, or unused parts according to vendor and dealership procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional parts counter and storage area.
Assist with monthly and periodic inventory counts.
Follow all dealership procedures for parts purchases, discounts, returns, and customer accounts.
Provide professional and courteous service to every customer and dealership employee.
Maintain knowledge of automotive parts, maintenance items, and common repair needs.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Parts Manager or management team.

Customer Service Expectations

Greet customers promptly and professionally.
Listen carefully to understand the customer's needs.
Ask appropriate questions to ensure the correct part is identified.
Clearly communicate pricing, availability, and estimated arrival times.
Never guess when identifying a part—verify the application and VIN.
Follow up on special orders and backordered parts.
Maintain a professional attitude, even during busy or difficult situations.

Technician & Service Department Support

The Parts Counterperson plays a critical role in keeping the Service Department productive. Responsibilities include:

Responding quickly to technician parts requests.
Verifying parts before they are sold or dispatched.
Locating parts from inventory or outside vendors.
Communicating delays immediately to Service Advisors and management.
Helping reduce technician downtime by obtaining parts as quickly as possible.
Ensuring parts are properly billed to the correct repair order.
Monitoring backordered and unavailable parts and providing timely updates.

Qualifications

Previous automotive parts experience preferred.
Automotive dealership experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of automotive parts and repair procedures.
Ability to accurately identify parts using a VIN and electronic parts catalogs.
Strong computer and communication skills.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Valid driver's license.
Professional appearance and attitude.

Preferred Experience

Mitsubishi or other OEM parts experience.
CDK or dealership management system experience.
Experience with electronic OEM parts catalogs.
Experience ordering parts from multiple vendors.
Previous dealership parts counter experience.
Knowledge of automotive service and repair terminology.

Performance Expectations

The successful Parts Counterperson is expected to:

Maintain accurate parts orders and invoices.
Minimize incorrect parts orders and returns.
Maintain organized and accurate inventory.
Respond promptly to technicians and Service Advisors.
Follow up on special orders and backorders.
Support technician productivity and minimize vehicle downtime.
Provide excellent customer service.
Protect dealership inventory and profitability.
Follow all dealership policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry automotive parts and supplies.
Ability to safely operate a parts cart and other equipment.
Ability to frequently bend, reach, lift, and move parts.
Ability to work in a warehouse and dealership environment.
