Full Job Description

SUMMARY: At Tri-V Tool & Mfg., the CNC Lathe Machinist is responsible for machining precision components used in tooling, fixtures, molds, and production equipment. This position operates in a toolroom / job shop environment with low-volume production and frequent machine setups.

This role requires an experienced machinist or toolmaker who is already comfortable working in a toolroom environment. This is not an entry-level CNC operator position, and basic machining instruction will not be provided.

Successful candidates will be able to independently read prints, set up machines, select tooling, and inspect parts while maintaining Tri-V’s standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

WAGE TYPE: Hourly

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Setup and operate CNC lathes for short-run and low-volume production (typically 1–100 parts)
Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and workholding based on setup sheets and prints
Interpret blueprints and machining instructions to produce parts to specification
Adjust tool offsets and machine parameters to maintain required tolerances
Perform turning operations including facing, turning, boring, threading, and grooving
Monitor machine operation to ensure proper function and part quality
Inspect finished components using precision measuring equipment
Identify and remove defective parts that do not meet specifications
Communicate with programmers and engineering staff regarding program changes or improvements
Perform secondary machining operations when required using manual equipment
Manual equipment may include:

o Manual lathes

o Bridgeport-style manual mills

o Surface grinders

o Drill presses

Additional shop responsibilities may include:

Cutting raw material using band saws
Transporting materials using forklifts
Operating overhead cranes (up to 7.5-ton capacity)
Maintaining a clean and organized work area consistent with ISO 9001 standards
Proper disposal of scrap and waste materials
Changing inserts, cutters, and tooling as required

MACHINES AND CONTROLS USED: Machining is performed using a variety of CNC and manual equipment including:

Hurco CNC Lathes

o TMX 10

Okuma CNC Lathes

o LB 3000EX, LB45II-M, LB 4000 EXII, 762S-BB

Star CNC Lathes (Swiss-style machining)

o SX-38, SR-20JII Type B

Controls used may include:

Fanuc-style controls
Hurco controls
Okuma OSP controls

Experience with similar CNC controls is acceptable.

TOOLING REQUIREMENTS: This is a toolroom position.

Machinists are expected to provide their own basic machinist tooling, including:

Rolling toolbox
Precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.)
Basic hand tools required for machine setup

Tri-V provides all machine tooling, fixtures, and consumables.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:

· Reports to: Team Leader

QUALIFICATIONS:

Expected:

· A.A.S. degree in tool making

· A.A.S. degree in Machining

· A.A.S. degree in Manufacturing technology

· Equivalent hands-on experience working in a toolroom or CNC machining environment.

Preferred:

· Certified Journeyman toolmaker.

· Experience setting up CNC lathes independently

· Experience with low-volume job shop machining

· Experience with manual machining equipment.

· Experience with live tooling.

Ability to effectively communicate with fellow employees and Management.
The ability to work well with others by effectively interacting, cooperating, collaborating, and managing conflicts with other people to complete tasks and achieve shared goals.

· The ability to lift up to 75 lbs. as required, with reasonable accommodations.

· Must be able to work well with others in a team setting to get all assigned tasks completed in a timely manner with high-quality standards.

· Must follow and uphold all Tri-V Policies in accordance with the Tri-V Employee Handbook.

· Demonstrate complete and consistent independence when completing every job task in a timely manner with excellent quality.
