Pediatric Medical Assistant

Vero Beach Pediatrics is one of the most trusted and highly rated pediatric practices in Indian River County. Families here have brought their children to this practice for more than 50 years. We carry forward the legacy of a beloved Vero Beach pediatrician who cared for this community for decades, and since opening under new ownership in 2022 we have built on that foundation with a practice designed around technology and patient experience.

We provide care to children from birth through age 12, as well as adolescent care from ages 13 to 21. Our physicians are well respected locally and known for their approachable, family‑centered style.

Vero Beach Pediatrics is a modern, forward‑thinking practice. We invest heavily in best‑in‑class technology to make the patient experience simple, efficient, and easy for both parents and children. As our practice continues to grow, we are expanding our team to support that growth.

Position Availability

We are currently seeking a full-time Pediatric Medical Assistant to join our clinical team, with an immediate start. This position begins at a minimum of four days per week, moving to five days as the practice continues to grow. It is an established role supporting our pediatricians in a busy, well-run practice, and a great opportunity for someone looking to grow with a thriving pediatric practice.

Pediatric Medical Assistant – Job Responsibilities

(Supporting Pediatricians)

Clinical Assistance

Assist pediatricians during physical examinations, ensuring all tools and equipment are prepared and readily available.
Prepare children for examinations by explaining procedures in an age‑appropriate, reassuring manner.
Measure and accurately record vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate, following pediatric norms.
Collect and prepare laboratory specimens as directed by the pediatrician.
Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as prescribed and under provider supervision.

Patient Care & Family Education

Educate parents and guardians on wellness visits, vaccination schedules, and pediatric care plans.
Comfort and reassure children who may feel anxious or nervous during visits.
Support pediatricians in educating children about their health, treatments, or procedures in an age‑appropriate way.

Administrative & Technology Responsibilities

Maintain accurate and timely medical records using Athena (Athenahealth) EMR.
Communicate with patient families using secure texting and digital communication tools when appropriate.
Schedule follow‑up appointments and clearly communicate next steps to parents and guardians.
Coordinate with laboratories, specialists, and outside facilities as directed.
All staff are issued dedicated laptops, and daily responsibilities require comfort with computers, clinical software, and digital workflows.

Equipment & Examination Rooms

Sterilize instruments and maintain clean, organized examination rooms.
Restock rooms with essential supplies, ensuring pediatric‑specific items are always available.

Communication & Team Coordination

Serve as a communication bridge between providers, patients, and families to ensure clarity and understanding.
Provide post‑visit summaries, care instructions, and medication guidance as directed.
Collaborate closely with clinical staff and front‑office team members to maintain efficient patient flow and minimize wait times.
Assist with referrals and additional testing as needed.

Safety, Compliance & Continued Learning

Uphold the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and infection control in a pediatric environment.
Ensure compliance with pediatric healthcare regulations and guidelines.
Stay current with pediatric best practices and medical advancements.
Participate in training and ongoing education as appropriate.

Medical Assistant Skills & Qualifications

Prior experience with Athena (Athenahealth) or similar EMR systems strongly preferred
Previous experience with Microsoft Office software preferred

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
