Time Commitment: 2-5 hours per week during summer months. 2-10 hours per week during fall/winter months. Some evenings with advance notice.

Harambe Social Services is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization located in Camden County, NJ. Our name, "Harambe," is derived from the Swahili word for "pulling together in unity," reflecting the principles of Nguzo Saba celebrated during Kwanzaa. Our mission is to enhance the well-being of individuals from the African Diaspora, and others, affected by domestic and sexual violence. We offer culturally specific intensive case management services, as well as therapeutic interventions and healing modalities. While our primary focus is on the African Diaspora, we extend a warm welcome to all individuals eager to embark on a journey toward improved emotional, mental, and physical health.
Program Overview
The "Teens in Charge: Healthy Relationship Learning Zone" is a school-based violence prevention program for middle and high school students. By addressing early risk factors related to community and gun violence, the program aims to reduce teen dating violence through strengthening social-emotional skills, promoting healthy relationship norms, and empowering youth to become peer leaders.
Position Summary
The Youth Program Trainer/Facilitator plays a pivotal role in the Teens in Charge: Healthy Relationship Learning Zone program, directly influencing its success and impact within the community. This position is vital to fostering a safer and healthier environment for middle and high school students across Camden County. As a Youth Program Trainer/Facilitator, you will be responsible for not only imparting knowledge but also inspiring change and leadership among youth.
This role requires two dynamic individuals who can seamlessly blend educational expertise with culturally responsive practices and an understanding of the needs of youth in the community. The position is contingent upon grant funding and involves the development and delivery of interactive, educational sessions tailored to address the specific needs of students. By facilitating classes and empowering youth, you will actively contribute to violence prevention initiatives and play a key role in community outreach efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Program Delivery: Conduct 60-minute classes at local schools, utilizing evidence-based violence prevention curricula and culturally relevant resources.
Participant Engagement: Foster a safe, inclusive learning atmosphere that encourages student participation and supports a nurturing community culture.
Curriculum: Develop and employ interactive teaching methods such as role-plays, group discussions, simulations, and creative projects.
Youth Empowerment: Educate students on healthy relationships, consent, gender norms, and leadership skills.
Program Evaluation: Perform pre-, mid-, and post-assessments to gauge changes in knowledge, attitudes, and skills, facilitating ongoing program improvement.
Collaboration and Partnership: Collaborate with school staff, social workers, and community partners to recruit participants and ensure effective program delivery.
Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including background checks and confidentiality and mandated reporting guidelines.
In Person Meetings: Participate in regular in-person meetings, either weekly or biweekly, to collaboratively review and refine lesson plans, evaluate student engagement and learning outcomes, analyze assessment data, and proactively identify challenges along with innovative solutions.
Outreach: Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage with local communities, schools, and organizations to promote the program and recruit participants. Represent the organization at community events and forums to advocate for violence prevention and healthy relationship education.
Reporting: Complete monthly reports indicating intakes, program activity, school partnerships, group work, performance, and planning.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Sociology, or a related field; experience in lieu of education may be considered.
- Experience with curriculum planning, facilitation, and program delivery tailored to youth and community audiences.
- Knowledge of topics such as teen dating violence, conflict resolution, and healthy relationship dynamics.
- Adaptability, cultural competence, and an understanding of the experiences and needs of diverse populations.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse groups of adolescents.
- Organizational skills with attention to documentation, record-keeping, and program evaluation.
- Proficiency in utilizing digital tools, online platforms, and presentation software to support program delivery.
- Dedication to Harambe’s mission of empowering communities and promoting safety, healing, and self-determination.
- Demonstrated ability to develop comprehensive lesson plans and engage in public speaking effectively.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
