Full Job Description

Job Overview

The Director of Operations provides strategic and hands-on leadership for all manufacturing, production, and installation workflows at R.C. Smith Company. This role drives operational excellence across machining, assembly, finishing, and delivery while maintaining strong vendor relationships and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

2. Production Oversight

Scheduling: Create and manage production schedules to meet deadlines.
Workflow Management: Optimize the flow of materials and labor through various stages—machining, cutting, edge-banding, assembly, finishing, packaging, loading/shipping and installation.
Quality Control: Ensure finished products meet company standards, client expectations and site requirements.

3. Team & Personnel Management

Supervision: Oversee pre-production staff, shop leads, shop staff.
Hiring, Training, Staff Development: Work with HR to recruit skilled workers and ensure proper onboarding. Ensure that all staff have proper training, that is ongoing training to include cross training and the development of multiple skills.
Workforce Planning: Anticipate labor needs based on project load.

4. Supply Chain & Inventory

Material Purchasing: Support timely procurement of lumber, hardware, and other related raw materials.
Vendor Management: Foster relationships with suppliers for cost-effectiveness and reliability.
Inventory Control: Manage raw material and finished goods inventory.

5. Budget & Cost Control

Operational Budgeting: Collaborate with finance on operational budgets.
Cost Monitoring: Track production costs, waste, and labor efficiency to improve margins.
Job Costing: Ensure accurate job costing data is made available to the Controller.

6. Customer Coordination

Improve Customers Experience: Have comprehensive understanding what builds a strong customer experience through our support of installers, general contractors, end users and our sales team. Comprehensive understanding of RC Smith’s relationships with customers. Engage in the full extent of our offerings from initial conversations with sales reps to in-depth installation experience.
Project Timelines: Communicate progress and delivery expectations to project managers.
Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot production or quality issues that impact our product during production or post-delivery (punch list).
Delivery & Install: Proactively manage production schedule to ensure on time delivery of product. Coordinate installation timelines and, if needed, install teams. Follow up with customers post-delivery and/or installation to confirm customer satisfaction.

7. Process Improvement & Systems

Lean Practices: Implement systems to reduce waste and improve efficiency (e.g., 5S, lean manufacturing principles, use of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
Software Systems: Competent operations software fluency including general programs (excel), ERP, programming and machining. Adapt to new software as business needs evolve.
SOP Development: Create, train on and enforce standard operating procedures.

8. Safety & Compliance

OSHA & Workplace Safety: Ensure a safe work environment and compliance with all safety regulations.
Training: Regular safety training and equipment maintenance checks.
Safety Committee: Ensure that our internal Safety Committee is performing the tasks needed to ensure a safe workplace.

9. Strategic Planning

Growth Planning: Support the owner and executive team in scaling operations or expanding capabilities.
Capital Projects: Help evaluate, plan for, and implement major equipment purchases or facility upgrades.

Requirements:

· 4-year degree or equivalent experience

· 5+ years of cabinet construction or equivalent experience

· Experience managing 15+ employees of varied skill levels, experience and backgrounds

· Fluent in English, Spanish is a plus

· Work well as a team player

Starting pay based on experience with benefit package and excellent bonus program.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
