Position: Site Facilitator at Senior Centers
Status: Part-time 22.5 hours a week
MUST be Vaccinated.
Position Summary
The Meal Site Facilitator is responsible for developing and maintaining a friendly and active Senior Center environment for the YWCA Senior Services Congregate program clients. The Meal Site Facilitator is also responsible for working cooperatively with the sponsor of the Senior Center or host site to ensure a positive working relationship between the sponsor, the Senior Services Program clients, and the YWCA Senior Services Program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Follow the operating standard(s) outlined in the (SOP) “Foodservice Standard Operating Procedures” issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services (WDACS) for the Senior Nutrition Congregate Meal Program. Operating with complete assurance that senior participants, volunteers and employees will receive the optimum nourishment and will avoid being made ill from the meals or be injured by a foreign object in the food. In order to achieve these standards, the employee is expected to be follow all appropriate food codes, laws regulations, health department protocols and ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification.
- Encourage maximum participation from clients in planning the Senior Center meal and activity routines.
- Works cooperatively with the Lead Regional Coordinator and Senior Services Regional Coordinators in planning and implementing Senior Center meal and activity programs designed to increase participation in the Congregate Meal Program.
- Assists the Nutrition Program Manager and Nutrition Services Supervisor with the daily monitoring of all meal site program guidelines and services with regard to compliance.
- Verifies quantities and checks condition of food upon delivery; records food temperatures in the presence of the caterer’s driver at time of arrival, and records temperatures again at time of service. Monitors food handling and portion control; supervises and provides in-service training to all volunteers and center staff who provide assistance in nutrition program.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the site kitchen during operation of the Congregate Meal Program. In accordance to local, program health regulations, and program requirements. Ensures compliance with the Site staff and Volunteer work schedule, the Site Cleaning Schedule and Los Angeles County Department of Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services (WDACS) Standard Operating procedures. Will keep forms posted clearly visible for easy reference by staff, volunteers, YWCA staff and program dietitian.
- Completes and maintains all daily meal count records, weekly food service reports, temperature logs, site equipment and supply inventory, supply order sheets, meal orders and the site reservation system.
- Communicated and works with the Consultant Dietitian to ensure open lines of communication and seeks advice and guidance on all food service-related issues and procedures.
- With the assistance of a second person that will attest: counts, records and makes daily bank deposit of cash donations.
- The incumbent in this position has no formal supervisory responsibility. However, he/she are expected to provide leadership and training to less experience staff and volunteers, and supervises volunteers at the senior service site.
- Facilitates a team approach in working with the Nutrition Program Manager, Nutrition Services Supervisor, Lead Regional Coordinator, Senior Services Regional Coordinators, Data Entry Supervisor, Healthy Aging Manager, Senior Services Program Manager and other Senior Services staff in order to ensure consistent and well-organized management of the YWCA Senior Services Program food service systems.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience and/or working in a food service program.
- Basic knowledge of cash counting and bank deposit procedures.
- Working knowledge of general office procedures including word processing, email access, maintaining records, simple bookkeeping and other record keeping.
- Working knowledge of all food service safety and sanitation requirements, and program guidelines , skills and ability to supervise and train volunteers in proper food handling techniques, kitchen safety and sanitation, and general procedures and policies of a senior meal program.
- Skills in maintaining all program records in an orderly manner.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, take initiative and exercised sound judgement in the absence of the supervisor.
- Proficient in English grammar and spelling with excellent oral and written communications
- Must attend all mandatory quarterly in-service training sessions provided by the Project Dietitian and must attend all mandatory monthly QA meetings.
- Completion of all current Los Angeles County Department of Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services (WDACS) mandatory certificate: 1. ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification and 2. In-Service training requirements for Nutrition Project personnel.
- ServSafe Certification must be renews every 5 years in order to continue to meet the Site Manager Job position requirement. If the employee is unable to pass the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Examination, ONE additional opportunity will be provided. If the employee is unable to pass the ServSafe Certification Examination after two attempts, theemployee will be terminated.
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license, a good driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier, and reliable transportation
- Willingness to attend agency training seminars and meetings outside normal working hours

In addition, there may be exposure to hazardous substances such as cleaning agents.
