Harvest Valley Farm Market & Bakery is hiring!
We are a local, family-owned, farm-to-table business located in Bakerstown, PA. In addition to more than 160 varieties of fruits and vegetables grown on our farm and sold seasonally at the Market, we offer a wide variety of bakery products, deli items, and other local and non-local products.
We are currently hiring for FOUR SEPARATE PART-TIME POSITIONS within our Market and Bakery facility:
- Bakery Assistant, Deli Associate, Produce Stock Associate & Cashier

Although all four positions work within the same building and are part of the Harvest Valley team, these are four separate job positions with different primary responsibilities.

Employees may occasionally be asked to assist another department or with general Market needs, but being hired for one position does not mean that you will routinely perform the responsibilities of all four positions.

1. BAKERY ASSISTANT
As a Bakery Assistant, you will support the preparation, production, packaging, stocking, and presentation of our bakery products while helping maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with bakery production, including preparing doughs, proofing, mixing batters, baking, and other assigned production tasks.
- Package, label, date-check, rotate, and restock bakery products.
- Ensure bakery products are fresh, properly labeled, and attractively displayed.
- Assist customers with bakery questions, orders, and product selections.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of bakery work areas, including prep tables, display areas, sinks, utensils, equipment, coolers, freezers, and floors.
- Follow food-safety, sanitation, and workplace-safety procedures.
- Safely operate bakery equipment such as ovens, mixers, food processors, and slicers after appropriate training.
- Work efficiently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
- Follow direction from Bakery Managers and Shift Leads.
Qualifications
- Must be 18+ to operate ovens and slicers.
- Previous food-preparation, bakery, or food-service experience is preferred but not required.
- Baking or pastry experience is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to follow recipes, procedures, and direction.
- Friendly and professional customer-service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and dependable attendance.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
2. DELI ASSOCIATE
As a Deli Associate, you will assist with the preparation, production, packaging, and service of our deli products while providing friendly and efficient customer service.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare pre-sliced grab-and-go meats and cheeses, made-to-order sandwiches, and other deli products.
- Accurately take and fulfill customer orders.
- Assemble sandwiches and other orders efficiently while maintaining quality and presentation.
- Package, label, date-check, rotate, and restock deli products.
- Ensure deli products are fresh, properly labeled, and attractively displayed.
- Provide friendly and professional customer service.
- Maintain a clean and organized deli area, including prep tables, display areas, sinks, utensils, slicers, coolers, and floors.
- Follow food-safety, sanitation, and workplace-safety procedures.
- Safely handle equipment such as slicers, ovens, knives, and box cutters after appropriate training.
- Multitask and transition efficiently between customer service, food preparation, stocking, and cleaning.
- Follow direction from supervisors and Shift Leads.
Qualifications
- Must be 18+.
- Previous food preparation, deli, restaurant, or food-service experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities.
- Ability to follow direction and established procedures.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
3. PRODUCE STOCK ASSOCIATE
As a Produce Stock Associate, you will help keep our produce department fresh, full, organized, and appealing to customers. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys physical, hands-on work and takes pride in maintaining a high-quality produce display.
Primary Responsibilities
- Stock and replenish fruits and vegetables throughout the Market.
- Rotate produce and check products regularly for freshness and quality.
- Remove damaged, spoiled, or unsuitable products from displays.
- Maintain attractive, clean, and well-organized produce displays.
- Assist with receiving, unloading, sorting, organizing, and putting away produce.
- Handle and transport boxes, cases, crates, and other products safely.
- Maintain clean and organized storage, display, and work areas.
- Assist customers with basic questions and locating products.
- Monitor displays and communicate inventory or product-quality concerns to supervisors.
- Follow proper food-safety, sanitation, and workplace-safety procedures.
- Assist with general Market duties as needed.
- Work efficiently and maintain productivity during busy periods.
Qualifications
- Previous produce, grocery, retail, farm, warehouse, or food-service experience is helpful but not required.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly regarding product freshness and presentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and dependable attendance.
- Ability to follow direction and established procedures.
- Comfortable performing physical, hands-on work throughout a shift.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, twist, reach, and lift using proper body mechanics.
- Ability to regularly lift and move products weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Friendly and helpful attitude when interacting with customers.
- Follow direction from supervisors.
4. CASHIER
As a Cashier, you will be one of the primary points of contact for our customers. You will provide friendly, efficient, and accurate service while processing purchases and helping maintain a welcoming checkout area.
Primary Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide friendly, professional service.
- Accurately process customer purchases using the Market's point-of-sale system.
- Handle cash, credit/debit cards, and other forms of payment accurately.
- Properly provide change and receipts.
- Assist customers with questions about products, pricing, and general Market information.
- Accurately scan and enter products, including produce and other items as required.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and well-stocked checkout area.
- Bag customer purchases carefully and appropriately.
- Assist with customer returns, exchanges, or other checkout concerns according to company procedures.
- Monitor the checkout area and request assistance when needed.
- Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor, even during busy periods.
- Follow cash-handling, food-safety, security, and workplace-safety procedures.
- Assist with general Market duties as directed when not actively serving customers.
Qualifications
- Previous cashier, retail, customer-service, or point-of-sale experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Friendly, outgoing, and professional personality.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Comfortable handling cash and processing transactions.
- Ability to learn and use a point-of-sale system.

SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITY
All four positions are part-time.
Weekend availability is required for all positions. Depending on the position and business needs, employees may also be scheduled for early mornings and/or evenings.

PAY & BENEFITS
Pay: $13.00–$16.00 per hour, depending on relevant skills and experience and position requirements.
